The New Liturgical Banner
This Sunday, we are pleased to dedicate a new liturgical banner for the front of the Church. This banner was commissioned by Herman Bell in honour of his wife, Carol. Sadly, both Herman and Carol passed away this spring, before the banner was complete. Today, we dedicate the banner in memory of Herman and Carol, in gratitude to God for their faithfulness, their love of beauty, and the many gifts they shared with our community.
Carol Marion Bell (née Hewitson)
December 28, 1943 - March 19, 2026
Herman John Bell
January 26, 1944 - April 4, 2026
The new banner is green, for Ordinary Time (also called the season of Pentecost), a period of the church year which stretches from Pentecost Sunday to Advent. It is composed of a fabric background, on which are hand-stitched overlapping circles, on which is superimposed a cross stitched from multiple pieces of ribbon and trim collected from stores and markets across the world.
The 3 panels of the banner represent the Trinity. The overlapping circles represent community and in its center is Christ who binds us together.
We extend our gratitude to Calgary fabric artist Lorraine Ross, who designed and executed this beautiful piece of art. More of Lorraine’s work can be seen at https://www.lorraineross.art/.
