Greetings!

With the holidays fast approaching, we need to make sure that we get our priorities in the right order.

In service of healthy boundaries, here are 40 ways to say "No" this holiday season.

  1. No, I’m not interested.
  2. No, thank you.
  3. Unfortunately, it’s not a good time.
  4. Thanks for asking, but I’m not available that day.
  5. That sounds like fun! But I’m already committed to something so I won’t be able to join.
  6. Thanks for thinking of me, but I can’t.
  7. I’m not interested, but I can give some thought to who might be interested if that would be helpful.
  8. It’s sounds like a great cause, but we are giving to something else this year.
  9. Totally flattered and totally can't do it.
  10. No thanks, I have another commitment.
  11. That’s not really for me, but thank you.
  12. Sounds tempting, but I have to pass.
  13. No, dude.
  14. I really appreciate you asking me, but I can’t commit to that right now.
  15. You know, I’ve been there once and it really wasn’t for me.
  16. I won’t be able to join this year.
  17. I have other plans, but thank you!
  18. Heck no.
  19. I’m all set.
  20. Yikes! Not a good fit.
  21. No, [3] pieces of pie really is my limit.
  22. I’m not really into it.
  23. My plans are already set that weekend.
  24. I’ve got too much on my plate right now.
  25. Nopety Nope Nope (a favorite of my IB Biology teacher)
  26. I have to bow out of this one.
  27. Nah, not for me.
  28. I’m not comfortable with that.
  29. Great offer, but bad timing.
  30. No, I need to focus on other priorities.
  31. I don’t have the time to dedicate to that right now.
  32. I know this is important to you, but I can’t.
  33. The minions at home won't let me do it.
  34. No, thank you so much for reaching out to me though.
  35. I need to take a rain check.
  36. I can’t this month, will you reach out to me in the spring to ask again?
  37. I'm slammed.
  38. Negative.
  39. Apologies, but I have to sleep.
  40. Look over there, is that Elvis/Tupac/Bea Arthur? (Then run)

Albourne has over 400 employees in offices around the globe. In 2020 and 2021 FLP provided several Identity & Inclusion Workshops that focused on understanding our own identities and how they relate to latent bias, assumptions, and microaggressions. We also provided Conflict Resolution training for their senior leadership and global HR team.

Genesis Fisher Speaks on 10/21 at Mediation Settlement Day!

Mediation Settlement Day (MSD) is a free annual event that celebrates the importance and value of conflict resolution. To celebrate, the Association for Conflict Resolution, Greater New York (ACR-GNY ) convenes members of the conflict resolution community for a conversation on the selected topic and to celebrate the new Frontline Champion Award honoree/s. Our own Genesis Fisher is the President of the Board of Directors for ACRGNY.

This year's topic is MENTORING and the Frontline Champion Awardee is Alexandra Carter, best-selling author and Columbia Law School Clinical Professor. Genesis will be moderating a panel discussion exploring individual and systemic mentoring, personal experiences, and other ways we can lift up and support others.

Caustic Work Environments Impact Our Physical Health

Work atmospheres impact our physical health, there's no way around it. We spend more waking hours at work than we do with our friends and families. And if we're miserable, slogging through a toxic atmosphere, that will get filtered through our bodies.

If you know someone who's miserable at work, get them to articulate why. Is it the team? the hours? the boss? the lack of advancement? or even just feeling stuck? Whatever the reason, there are tons of wonderful resources out there. Encourage them to explore opportunities to improve their situation and self-care.

And if they want to start small, by learning how to communicate better in the office, click here to get our free workplace toolkit.
