Happy Fourth of July!
We all know that it is the day we celebrate the birth of our nation but I wonder how many of us think about what that meant back then. Fifty six men signed the Declaration of Independence on August 2nd of 1776 in the State House of Pennsylvania. Did they know that it would grow across thousands of miles of unexplored country and evolve into the most powerful nation in the world?
My most exciting 4th was in 1959. We in Alaska, changed from being a territory with an appointed governor to the 49th state. My sister and I were turning 13 and our family was on vacation in (the lower 48). We were visiting my father's brother who was a colonel in the Army and stationed at Fort Knox. They had a huge celebration with guns and cannons to salute Alaska becoming a state. I was so proud.
We have been having a week of finished projects. I finished my Suri Shirt. It fits well and I really like how the Mirasol Inka worked up. It appears shiny in the ball but it knits up marled or tweedy. Anyway, I will use it again.
Alyson finished another two scarves using the Close to You pattern. Andrea finished her vest and Cathy finished her KAL top. Pictures of all. Now the dilemma, what to make next. I started the Anemones Scarf. It is a small, simple lace pattern. It is a good scrap yarn project. I am using a ball of Woolfolk Tynd fingering with a ball of mohair. I believe an advanced beginner or intermediate skilled knitter could make this. Alyson is making one also. She is using two balls of mohair held together.
We have received refills of our red rock colors in Huasco fingering. They move out so fast I already had to put in another order. A treat to the shop is Becky Helgesen has been hand-dying some yarns. Her red rock colors are flying out the door. It is so great to have some locally dyed yarns in the shop again.
We are in the process of adding an increased variety of crochet items and patterns in the shop. I want to acknowledge our crocheters as that technique broadens what we can create with yarn. Stop by and see some of the beautiful crochet samples we have hanging in the shop. Please spread the word to your friends who crochet or want to learn. Linda Patrick, who is the magician who makes my news letters look great, is a fabulous crocheter and has one of her bags she crocheted using our free pattern from the newsletter (see Customer's Corner below). What fun to make a bag or hat. We would be happy to sponsor a class to make the bag. Just let me know if you are interested.
I am displaying some of our Queensland cotton yarn. It would be perfect for hats or bags and we have over twenty colors available.
My husband Rick and I will be in Kansas City next week for the National Elks Club convention. We will also be visiting my son Kevin who lives there, his wife and two grown grandsons. My middle son Malcolm will be flying down from Boise to spend the week also. What a treat.
Happy 4th to all
