Note from Annual Conference:

We've been an important part of a great Annual Conference! I'm still in Wichita Falls - we'll be done Wednesday at noon. Our new Advocacy Postcards project had people crammed our UWFaith exhibit table wanting to sign! The lunch we co-sponsored was GREAT! It was sold out, and people stood at the back to listen! Our speaker, Rev. Ginger Gaines-Cirelli, Sr. Pastor of Foundry UMC in DC, was fabulous.

The case for unstoppable joy

UNSTOPPABLE JOY

Soul Care Blog
by Karen Kaigler-Walker

When I walked up to the podium, I was met by an audience who looked as though they’d been served lemons for lunch. I was at a retreat to give a talk about soul care to a group of Christian women. Speaking right after lunch is always challenging, but nodding heads and polite yawns soon fade as we get into the topic. But this was far beyond heavy eyelids. It was more of a collective stink-eye. I carried on, but their frame of mind didn’t shift a whit.

What made the situation heartbreaking was that this was a group, not just of Christian women, but of active, caring, loving, beautiful Christian women. Yet for all their goodness read more . . .

We had a great time!

The theme was "Dream it! Believe it! Do it!" The keynote speakers, Stacey Abrams and her mother, Rev. Carolyn Abrams, retired UMC clergy, were fabulous! They encouraged us to use our faith to embrace peopleship over partisanship, because human need is not political. Rev. Stephanie York Arnold was our Theologian in Residence and delivered messages centered around the theme of abundance and living an abundant life for all. Katie Pryor and Barbara Hill were consecrated as new Deaconesses. There were also dancers, ecumenical women leaders and the music was great with a live band. It was fun to make new friends, see faraway friends and learn new things. There were interactive Town Halls and cutting-edge workshops. Really - we wish YOU were there too! Have a look at our new photo album. Invite one of us that went to tell your circle or small group all about it!
