Counting in tens is fun!
So, we’re pretty happy to have that many GRAMMY® nominations.
And to set a new record in the Best Choral Performance category:
most consecutive years nominated.
Nine years. Ten nominations. (Three wins.)
Thank you composers.
Thank you performing artists.
Thank you recording team and album artist.
Thank you Recording Academy members.
Thank you board, supporters, local audiences... and those where we travel (like now, writing from our residency at UNC Chapel Hill!).
And, thank you, thank you, listeners.
That’s the best part: listening.
Nominations like this mean that many more people will listen to the music of
Caroline Shaw, George Lewis, and Ayanna Woods –
works written for us, sung by us, focusing on words that tell our stories.
Words like those of Mei-mei Berssenbrugge’s “Fog,” set by George:
Slow-whirling galaxies allow stars and gas
to fall into hot disks of matter,
orbiting around
massive holes in the centers of the galaxies,
allowing a branch to spring up at the moment when
snow melts from it.
Like Mei-mei and George, we contemplate insignificance, while we momentarily capture just a whiff of significance in our corner of the world – a world of incredibly versatile, brave singers and committed, courageous listeners.
It takes a lot of people to make an album.
See who they are – the nominated! – below.
And, thank you for believing in us!
