HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

September 15 - October 15

Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity for BBBS to communicate our belonging, inclusive and welcoming mentoring culture through storytelling and awareness, while highlighting the cultural significance of the Hispanic and Latin community, with key emphasis on addressing underrepresentation in mentoring within the Hispanic population.

BIG OF THE MONTH:

BIG SISTER ALEASHA

"I really value this program because it gives me a meaningful way to give back—something I feel strongly about, especially since I’ve benefited from others investing in me when I was growing up. It aligns so well with the life I strive to live: one rooted in service, but also full of connection and joy.

What I love most is the authentic connection. Spending time with my Little—whether we’re exploring interests, laughing over inside jokes, or just hanging out, it’s those moments that grow into something special. It’s not about trying to fix anything, it’s about simply being there, consistently. That consistency builds trust and sometimes changes everything.

Mentoring also helps me see the world from fresh angles. Kids bring energy, curiosity, and a way of seeing things that adults often overlook. Getting a peek into their world opens my eyes and, honestly, makes me a better listener and more empathetic person.

There’s also this deep sense of purpose that comes with being a Big. Knowing my Little looks forward to our time together, knowing that I’m putting belief and encouragement in their corner is incredibly grounding. Even when I’m guiding her, I realize I’m growing too."

Suicide Prevention Month

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with some of the warning signs. Save the crisis line in your phone and notify your Match Support Specialist right away if you think your Little may be a danger to themselves or others. Together, we can help Littles receive the support they need.

WE’RE MAKING A RIPPLE OF CHANGE 🌊
