New Members:

Since our last Membership Newsletter, we have welcomed one new member:

  • Jonathan Steinberg (CT House Rep for District 136 - Westport)

Please keep an eye out for him at Y's Men gatherings, introduce yourself, and give him a warm welcome.

New Member Spotlight (1 of 2):

Jim Simon: Data Pioneer, Serial Entrepreneur, Reluctant Retiree

Jim spent 30+ years on the supplier/vendor side of the behavioral data and targeting business. His focus was on bringing answers to his clients through marketing research, software and the application of integrated data sources (e.g., syndicated scanner, POS, HH purchasing, shipments, financials). In 1983, Jim was transferred to Westport and has been here ever since.

After working for two larger companies, Jim joined his first (of three) start-ups in 1993, which was, fortunately, based in Westport. Jim started his last start-up (Spire) in 2008. In 2014 Spire was merged with Datalogix and in 2015 was sold to Oracle and later that year Jim retired.

During "retirement", Jim and his wife Jill Gordon purchased a second home in Naples (FL) and needed to track their time in Westport for tax purposes. Since they couldn't find an app to track their days, Jim and one of his old partners built one. It's called TaxBIrd and is available on both the App Store and Google Play. Jill is an abstract painter and has a studio and gallery in Naples.

New Member Spotlight (2 of 2):

Patrick Dwyer: Retired CPA, Sports, Gardening & Music Enthusiast

Patrick Dwyer, a Westport resident since 2015, recently retired from a career in accounting and finance. Pat grew up in Westchester County, New York and is the youngest of five children. On his mother’s side (Virginia Epes Dwyer 1928-2012), his English ancestry goes back to the first colonial settlement in Jamestown, Virginia. Appomattox Manor was owned and operated by his family for over 300 years from 1635 to 1979. On his father’s side (William Dwyer 1925-2002), Pat’s family emigrated from Ireland in 1888 and settled in New York City. His father was a decorated WWII veteran, a paratrooper with the 82nd Airbourne Division (507th Paratrooper Infantry Regiment), who fought in the Battle of Bulge and jumped in Operation Varsity. Pat’s father also owned a real estate management company in NYC.

After graduating from Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, NY, Pat’s adventures brought him to Colorado where he enjoyed skiing while working in the construction trades. Pat returned to the northeast to form a painting company, while completing his college education. Pat graduated from Pace University in 1989 and began his public accounting career at Arthur Young before joining the ranks of Fortune 500 companies including GE, Philip Morris, and Xerox.

Pat recently celebrated his 34th wedding anniversary with his wife Audra, whom are blessed with two sons, Devon and Dylan, ages 24 and 20 (both graduates of Staples High School). Pat is an avid golfer and enjoys tennis and paddle tennis, gardening, swimming and fishing. He is also a music enthusiast and beginner guitar player. Pat is excited to join the Y's Men, staying active and pursuing athletics with the Westport Y's Men Community.
