Bring a Little Light to the Holidays

This holiday season, help a senior feel seen, remembered and cared for through Second Wind Dreams’ Gifts of Light program. Individuals, families, businesses and community groups can adopt a senior to deliver gifts to them during the holidays—turning a simple gift into a meaningful reminder that they matter.

Want to make a difference? Volunteer to adopt a senior, support the program with a donation, or shop our Gifts of Light wish list to provide much-needed items. Every act of kindness can bring joy and connection to a senior who may otherwise receive little or no personal gift during the holidays.

Nursing centers: Mark your calendar!

  • November 2: Register your nursing center to participate. Dreams program membership is required; contact Dreams@secondwind.org for information.
  • November 16: Submit resident wish lists.
  • Through December 25: Volunteers deliver gifts and make holiday visits.

Ready to spread some holiday light? Complete our volunteer sign-up form, and Heavyn, our Dreams & Volunteer Coordinator, will connect with you about available opportunities and next steps.

Marvin's Dreams Makes the News

Marvin has loved baseball his entire life. From childhood games at Yankee Stadium to a 20-year baseball career, the sport has always been part of who he is. So when Second Wind Dreams learned about Marvin’s enduring passion, we knew this was a dream worth making happen.

Together with Marvin’s family and the team at A.G. Rhodes, we surprised him with a celebration filled with cherished baseball memorabilia—including a Willie Mays glove—and tickets to see the Atlanta Braves with his family. His reaction was unforgettable. Now, Marvin’s dream has captured the attention of CBS News Atlanta, shining a light on something we know to be true: growing older doesn’t mean giving up on the things that bring us joy.

Every dream has a story. Every person has something they’re still dreaming about. And with your support, Second Wind Dreams can continue making those dreams possible.

Free Webinar & NAB Credit on Including Children at the End of a Loved One's Life

Person-centered care at the end of life extends beyond an individual’s physical and clinical needs. It also means recognizing and supporting the family members who are experiencing the transition alongside them—including children.

Talking with children about serious illness, death and dying can feel overwhelming. Adults may avoid these conversations because they want to protect children or are uncertain about what to say. However, children often recognize that something is changing. Honest, compassionate and developmentally appropriate conversations can reduce fear and confusion while creating opportunities for connection, understanding and healing.

Join Second Wind Dreams for this powerful presentation offered through our Empathic Transitions Program.

P.K. Blog Entry: The Missing Piece in Dementia Care Training
