California Bill Introduces Provision to Curb Predatory Accessibility Lawsuits | At a recent press conference with California State Senator Roger Niello, AAHOA North Pacific Regional Director Ankit Panchal stood alongside the authors and co-authors of Senate Bill 84 (SB 84) as the sole invited industry representative. SB 84 introduces a “fix-it-first” provision aimed at curbing predatory accessibility lawsuits against small businesses with 50 or fewer employees. Under the proposed legislation, plaintiffs would be required to notify businesses of alleged violations and allow 120 days for corrections before seeking statutory damages – offering hotel owners and other small business operators a fair chance to address issues without facing immediate legal and financial consequences. AAHOA encourages its California members to contact their state legislators and voice their support for SB 84 before July 15.

U.S. RevPAR -1.3% y/y last week; Overall a soft week with lots of holiday impacted moving parts
As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was -1.3% y/y for the week ending 7/5/2025, per STR/CoStar, below the prior week's result of -0.1% y/y and below the trailing 10-week average of -0.2% y/y. Last week’s results were materially impacted by the shift of Independence Day to a Friday in 2025 from a Thursday in 2024. The holiday timing allowed for a more normal business travel week this year. At a high level, y/y comps were volatile by day of week but largely straightforward to interpret given the holiday shift. Monday/Tuesday RevPAR averaged +8% y/y. Wednesday/Thursday were negative due to holiday timing (average -10%). Upscale RevPAR: +1.1% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +0.6% y/y."
