New Bank Coming to Town

Chase Bank Submits Site Plan


Chase Bank plans to construct a building on leased land in the Hastings Marketplace West commercial development a 1720 Market Blvd. The building owner is seeking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and plans to incorporate solar panels into the construction. The City Council approved the site plan at its Aug. 18 City Council meeting. A timeline for building was not available.

Central Water Treatment Plant Construction Begins Next Month

Contractors Selected for September Start Date


Bids were reviewed and contractors selected for building the Central Water Treatment Plant, to be located at 1290 N. Frontage Road and completing the Raw Water Main Project. The projects are set to begin next month. The Central Water Treatment Plant is the first of three to be built to remove PFAS from city drinking water. Magney Construction was awarded the contract for building the Central Water Treatment Plant. The bid came in at $14.5 million, 20% lower than the engineer's estimate. A-1 Excavating was awarded the contract for the Raw Water Main project. The bid came in at $2.58 million, 11% lower than the engineer's estimate.

Preparing the Block for Redevelopment


Crews from GZA Environmental are conducting soil borings and interior destructive survey investigations within the vacant buildings at the Hastings Gateway Site located southwest of 4th St. and Vermillion St. Funding is aided through a $15,000 Redevelopment Incentive Grant through Dakota County CDA. Work is necessary to determine any environmental cleanup actions for Hastings Economic Development and Redevelopment Authority's (HEDRA) planned redevelopment of the site.

Honoring Lt. General Edward J. Heinz: A Legacy of Service


At a recent City Council meeting, Rich Hullander presented a heartfelt proposal to honor the life and legacy of Lt. General Edward J. Heinz, USAF, Hastings' highest-ranking military officer, who recently passed away. Hullander shared a historical perspective on the Heinz family's lasting impact on the community, highlighting their deep-rooted ties to Hastings. He also provided a comprehensive overview of General Heinz's distinguished career, including his achievement as the highest-ranking officer to emerge from the ROTC program nationwide. Mark Gelhar, representing the VFW, also discussed various ways to honor Heinz's memory. A committee made up of VFW members and family representatives has proposed several ideas, which are currently under review by staff. City Council Action Highlights

Aug. 18, 2025 Council Meeting


  • Accepted a $400 donation from Steve & Sharon Runtsch for a memorial tree in honor of Chris Ajer; a $1,000 donation from the Weisz Family for a memorial bench in honor of Butch & Joey Kane; an $800 donation from the Family and Friends of Jenny Wiederholt-Pine for two memorial trees; and a $1,000 donation from the Bauer Family for a memorial bench in honor of Joan Warner.
  • Authorized a Bond Issue for a Public Facilities Authority (PFA) Loan for the Central Water Treatment Plant and Raw Watermain Project. The city obtained the loan at a reduced interest rate of 2.647% for a 20-year term in the amount of approximately $5 million. 
  • Authorized Signature of WSB Construction Support Services for the Central WTP and Raw Watermain Projects.
  • Approved two arts' event grants for River Valley Community Orchestra and River Valley Chorale as recommended by the Arts & Culture Commission.
  • Accepted Planning Commissioner Resignation from Bryce LeBrun and Appointed Planning Commissioner Nicole DePalma.
  • Approved the Strategic Plan: 2nd Quarter Report 2025.

The Hastings Police Department Welcomes New Employees


Travis Lorch joined the Hastings Police Department July 28th as a police officer. He grew up in Eagan and graduated from Rosemount High School prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he served for four years. He then continued his education at Mankato State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.  


Nathan Welt also started with the Hastings Police Department July 28th as a community service officer. Nathan is a graduate of Hastings High School and is currently attending school at Inver Hills Community College with the goal of being a licensed police officer. Nathan also works for Dakota County Parks and Trails and is a police reserve for the Cottage Grove Police Department.

Onken Promoted to Arena Manager


Congratulations to Cory Onken, who was promoted to Hastings Civic Arena manager Aug. 1st! Cory has been the arena's facility supervisor for the past nine years. He succeeds Jeff Eliott, who retired last month. Cory has been a key influence in developing and maintaining positive relationships with arena user groups, keeping the facility well-maintained and ensuring a positive environment for all skaters who visit the arena.

Overdose Awareness Month Activities

Aug. 21 Overdose Awareness Day


The Devin J. Norring Foundation in collaboration with United Way of Hastings and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church will hold an event beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21 at Hastings Public House in honor of Overdose & Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Day. All are welcome to attend an evening of remembrance, education and action to come together as a community to raise awareness about the deadly impact of fentanyl and honor the lives lost to overdose and poisoning.


The City of Hastings and Dakota County recognize August as Overdose Awareness Month, and the County has issued a news announcement with several activities.
