Provider Directory Information Request for Providers

Beginning July 1, 2025, the Alabama Medicaid Agency (Medicaid) Provider Directory will display the following additional provider information:

  • The provider’s cultural and linguistic capabilities including languages (including American Sign Language) offered by the provider (including interpretation/translation service offerings) or by a skilled medical interpreter who provides interpretation services at the provider’s office.

  • Whether the provider is accepting new Medicaid patients and whether the provider is accepting new CHIP patients.

  • Accommodations provided by the provider’s office or facility for individuals with physical disabilities; to include offices, exam rooms, and equipment.

  • The providers website (if applicable).

  • Whether the provider offers covered services via telehealth.

Providers in the process of becoming a Medicaid provider may supply this information in the appropriate fields of the electronic enrollment application. This information will be verified for currently enrolled providers during the revalidation process. Initial enrollment applications and/or revalidation documentation submitted without this information will be subject to a request for correction.

Currently enrolled providers may also view, update, and/or supply this information via the Medicaid Interactive Web Portal by following the steps below. NOTE: This access is only available to account administrator users. Click HERE for information on adding updating information.

Email Contact Information Required for Providers

The Alabama Medicaid Agency (Medicaid) will now require all providers to supply email address information for the following provider contact information fields: service location, pay to, mail to, patient contact/directory and contact person.

Providers in the process of becoming a Medicaid provider should provide this information in the appropriate fields of the electronic enrollment application. This information will also be required and verified for currently enrolled providers during the revalidation process. Initial enrollment applications and/or revalidation documentation submitted without the required contact information will be subject to a request for correction.

Accurate and complete provider information is important for Medicaid, providers and recipients. The provider file is utilized for revalidation, remittance payments, directories and publication communications. Please log in to the Medicaid Web Portal today to verify and/or provide updated information.

Providers currently enrolled may view and update fields (e.g., service location, contact information, provider mail to and pay to) by following the steps outlined HERE.

Qlosi Available to Prescribe

Qlosi™ (pilocarpine hydrochloride ophthalmic solution 0.4%) officially launched in 47 states on Monday, April 7th. As of April 21, 2025, Alabama prescribers are now able to prescribe Qlosi and the pharmacy restriction has been lifted.

We are eager for you to prescribe Qlosi™ for appropriate early to moderate presbyopic patients, and we would like to share with you some of the great results from the clinical program for Qlosi. In the FDA clinical program, Qlosi showed promising results in improving near vision without compromising distance vision. It contains a proprietary EyeQ Formulation™ that includes the lowest approved concentration of pilocarpine, a near neutral pH that enhances bioavailability, is preservative free and contains two lubricating agents (HA and HPMC). To learn more about Qlosi, please visit www.qlosiECP.com.

You can now e-prescribe Qlosi through BlinkRx or Medvantx specialty pharmacies.

We appreciate your patience during this short delay.

Legislative Update

The Alabama Legislative Session ended last week. While we were hopeful that Rep. Mark Shirey's sales tax on opthalmic goods bill, HB 176, would be heard on the Senate floor, a prolonged filibuster over a local issue only allowed a few bills to be heard on the last few days of session. Rep. Shirey plans to pre-file the bill for the 2026 legislative session.

The Alabama Board of Optometry Sunset bill passed and was signed by the Governor. This allows the Board to operate for four more years before undergoing another Sunset review. The Alabama Board of Optometric Sholarship and Loans was awarded a $200,000 appropriation to continue their mission supporting student education at UABSO.

The Election season has officially kicked off. The primary will be held in May of 2026 and the General election will be in November. All House and Senate seats will be up for election in 2026 as well as the constitutional offices, including the Lt. Governor and Governor. We encourage all optometrists to get involved in local legislative races with your time and contributions to campaigns.

DO YOU HAVE PATIENTS THAT QUALIFY FOR THE COMPASS STUDY?
