Dear Friends

For this week’s newsletter, I want to share the story of Jesus healing the man by the pool of Bethesda.

This is the same passage we’ll be exploring together at our High School Bible Study on Wednesday, November 12, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. in the Attic. We’ll enjoy dinner, read John 5, and have an open discussion about what this story means for us today. If you have a high schooler, encourage them to come be part of the conversation!

Also for SNL/Y'all Saints' Erik Thurmond will be leading us in his prayer in motion class. Prayer in Motion is a spiritual exercise that helps participants become more aware of God's presence in our bodies, particularly as we move with intention. This form of prayer integrates guided meditation, visualization, and breathing exercises with stretching, shaking, and strengthening exercises. Come pray in motion with us!

.

Here are a few questions to ponder on while after you read John 5:1-15. These will be some of the questions we’ll be discussing during our Bible Study:

  • Why do you think Jesus asked the man, “Do you want to be healed?” when the answer seems obvious?
  • What is something that's keeping you on your mat, not allowing you to walk?
  • What does the man’s reply — “I have no one to help me…” — show about his mindset after so many years?
  • How is your patience?
  • How does Jesus’ command, “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk,” invite us to respond in new ways?
  • Has someone helped you “get into the pool” during a difficult time in your life?

Let this story serve as a reminder that Jesus meets us right where we are but doesn't leave us there. Jesus invites us to get to rise, walk, and live fully in God's grace.

John 5:1–15 (NIV)

1 Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals.

2 Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades.

3 Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed.

5 One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.

6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

7 “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”

8 Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”

9 At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.

10 The day on which this took place was a Sabbath, and so the Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat.”

11 But he replied, “The man who made me well said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’”

12 So they asked him, “Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk?”

13 The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.

14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”

15 The man went away and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had made him well.

Peace,

Luke

High school Lock-In November 15th Cancelled

It looks like the weekend of November 15–16 is a busy one for many! I've only one person signed up for the lock-in, so I’ve decided to postpone it to a later date. This gives me a great opportunity to hear from our youth about what they’re most interested in when it comes to retreats and lock-ins.

Georgia Tech Parking lot Fundraiser

November 22nd

We are running it back! The youth are hosting a parking lot fundraiser to raise money for our international pilgrimage this summer! If you are going to the Georgia Tech home game vs Syracuse come park at All Saints! We are selling spots for 40$

These parking lot fundraisers are a great way to contribute financially to make the trip possible. The funds knock the price for pilgrimage for those who are able to volunteer during the fundraiser. If you're going to the game park at All Saints' and tell a friend!

High School Bible Study

Wednesday, November 12th

6:00-7:30

Y'all Saints' Bible Study, November 12th, from 6:00–7:30 PM. If you're in high school, come join us for a relaxed, meaningful space to explore your faith. We might read scripture, watch a movie, and more as a way to dive into our faith. We will uncover the themes and messages together, all while building community. This group is a quieter, more reflective alternative to Sunday night programming. If you're looking to go a little deeper in your faith journey, this is for you! We are going to be reading the John 5 Jesus healing the man by the pool.

Volunteer Opportunity

To help build stronger connections and make this year meaningful for our youth, I’ve put together a Sign-Up Genius and a Google Doc with a variety of ways you can get involved in youth ministry. The Google Doc lists all the volunteer roles—please check the boxes for anything you're comfortable signing up for. The Sign-Up Genius includes specific dates and time slots for each opportunity.

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or looking to jump in for the first time, there’s something for everyone:

Volunteer Roles Available:

  • Provide Dinner for Sunday Night Youth Group (SNL & Y'all Saints'): Help feed our hungry youth by cooking, ordering, or bringing dinner. Fan favorites include Moe’s and Papa John’s Pizza—always a hit! Please note you do not have to bring a separate dinner for SNL and Y'all Saints, because we all eat together!

  • Sunday Formation Teacher: Join a team of volunteers to lead Sunday morning formation. Don’t worry—you won’t be doing it alone. We’re building a team-based structure to make it collaborative and low-pressure, even for first-time teachers.

  • Sunday Greeters (Morning and Evening): A warm hello makes all the difference. Greeters help our youth feel seen and welcomed as they arrive for programming.

  • Drivers & Chaperones for Local Outings: Occasionally, we’ll head off-site for events like bowling, laser tag, Braves games, or other local activities. We’re looking for adults willing to drive and actively participate—whether that means scoring strikes or just being a supportive presence.

  • Retreat Drivers & Chaperones: If you’re able to spend a weekend away, we’d love to have you join us as a chaperone or driver. It’s a chance to connect deeply with our youth and experience God’s presence in new ways.

  • Home Gathering Hosts: We’re looking for hosts willing to open their homes for small-group gatherings, game nights, or seasonal celebrations. You choose what you’re comfortable hosting.

  • Letter Writing: Help send notes and flyers to members in our community

We’re looking forward to an amazing year together, and I’m so grateful for your time, support, and energy as we continue building a meaningful youth community!
