Join us for Fair Housing Month of Action!

Each April, National Fair Housing Month is celebrated to reaffirm our commitment to ending housing discrimination and commemorate the passage of the federal Fair Housing Act in 1968, which prohibits discrimination in the sale or rental of housing on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability. The Fair Housing Center invites you to join us for Fair Housing Month of Action — a month dedicated to educating ourselves, and taking time to reflect, so that we can take action to advance fair housing.

Take part in Fair Housing Month of Action to expand your fair housing knowledge and become a better advocate for housing justice. Throughout the month of April, visit thehousingcenter.org/action for weekly challenges, resources, and engaging activities. Make sure you're also following us on social media and subscribed to our email list, so you don’t miss out on any of the action!

ICYMI: Watch the March Housing & Community Development Forum ft. Frank Ford

New research from the Fair Housing Center for Rights & Research analyzes 26 years of Cuyahoga County housing data to shed light on home sale price, investor acquisition, current foreclosure, and homeownership trends. The report provides data for all Cleveland neighborhoods and Cuyahoga suburbs. A significant finding of the report is that while the foreclosure crisis is now behind us, there are still legacy impacts on majority people of color neighborhoods and suburbs.

On March 18, Frank Ford, the author of the study, was our featured speaker for the latest Housing & Community Development Forum, moderated by News 5 Reporter Michelle Jarboe. Whether you missed the forum or just want to re-watch this insightful conversation, click the button below to view the recording!

Outpouring of Community Support for Source of Income Protections in University Heights

Thank you to everyone who joined us last month to stand up and speak out in defense of fair housing rights in the City of University Heights. City Council had previously planned to discuss a proposed amendment to their fair housing ordinance, which would have weakened source of income protections for residents with housing vouchers. However, the Council has since decided to table the discussion on amending their fair housing ordinance. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any future updates on how you can join us in protecting civil rights.
