2021 Little Patuxent River Half Marathon & 10K
Covid-19 Safety Plan, Updated 2.19.21
Hello Runners,
As you know, the Little Patuxent River Half Marathon & 10K is scheduled for March 6 & 7, 2021. We've updated the safety plan for this race to meet current covid-19 restrictions. At this very moment, our race permit is in the final stage of approval. We are optimistic that we will receive approval to run this race - HOWEVER - please understand that we are still waiting for final approval. We thank the county for making time to review our permit request while juggling vaccinations, inclement weather and standard operations.
We have A LOT of information to share with you. We are sending this info to you now so that you are prepared for race day. The following information has been updated on the race website as well. We thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we are making the best of a challenging situation. We are as excited as you are to return to racing and we can't wait to see you on race day.
Please read the information below in its entirety. Changes have been made to the wave start format and time for both the HM and 10K. These updates can also be viewed on the race website at www.ripitevents.com/littlepatuxentriverrun.

Covid-19 Safety Plan
The current restriction for mass gatherings in Howard County limits events to 250 people or less. There are a total of 912 runners in this event over 2 days. The following safety plan will be implemented for both Half Marathon on March 6 and the 10K on March 7.
-
Rip It Events will run TWO races EACH DAY with a short break in between races. Each race will have no more than 225 runners. There will never be more than 225 people running on the run course at any given time.
-
All runners will pick up their bib on race morning. There is no packet pick up prior to race day. Your timing chip will already be affixed to the back of your bib. Runners will be permitted to pick up these items no more than 30 minutes prior to their assigned wave start. A social distancing type of packet pick up will be implemented where race management and athletes maintain 6ft from each other at all times. After picking up your bib, runners will report directly to the start area. Please reference the flow of runners’ image at the bottom of this document.
-
Runners are assigned a starting wave of 25 people. Each wave will start 3 minutes apart. Participants will be spaced 6 ft apart in the starting corral. This will reduce the amount of passing on the run course. View race timeline below to see YOUR individual start wave and time.
- Runners participating in both the Half Marathon& 10K will be required to go through packet pick up each day. You will get a different bib for each race.
-
Runners will be required to wear masks before and after the race. Runners will be required to CARRY a mask during the race at all times.
-
Runners are encouraged to carry their own hydration (i.e. camelback or fuel belt). Per permit restrictions, there are NO aid stations on the course.
- Runners will receive their shirt and finisher medal as they exit the venue. Please reference the flow of runners image at the bottom of this email.
-
Spectating is NOT permitted at this year’s event.
Race Time Line
Wave starts were grouped based on runners pace per mile as indicated on the registration form. Participants MUST start in their assigned waves. If your average pace is list incorrectly but only by 30 seconds or so, please remain in your assigned wave. If you feel strongly that you should be placed in a different wave, please email us at racedirector@ripitevents.com. Starting in the same wave with a friend or spouse is NOT considered a valid reason to request a wave change.
