Dear Inverness Residents,
|
|
Recently, the Village of Inverness has implemented an ordinance that requires door-to-door solicitors to obtain a permit from the Inverness Police Department.
The following are several key points.
Permitted Hours: Solicitation is permitted during the following hours:
- Monday-Friday: 10:00 am to 7:00 pm
- Saturday: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
- Sunday: Not permitted.
Respect for Residents: Solicitors are prohibited from disturbing any residence that has posted a sign bearing the words "No Peddlers," "No Solicitors," "No Canvassers," "Peddlers, Solicitors, or Canvassers Prohibited," or similar words.
Availability of No Solicitors Signs: No solicitors signs are available at Village Hall and the Police Department during regular office hours. If you wish to receive a sign via mail, please contact Village Hall at 847-358-7740.
Background Check: At the time of application, all applicants must be fingerprinted and have a background check conducted by the Inverness Police Department, prior to the issuance of the permit. The application will be denied if the background check reveals the applicant has a felony or misdemeanor conviction which calls into question the character, morals or reputation, falsified information on the application, or is a registered sex offender.
Solicitor’s Badge. All solicitors must have the Village’s Solicitors Permit badge visible when soliciting. The badge will display a photograph of the solicitor, permit valid dates, and solicitor’s employer. A list of active solicitors will be available at inverness-il.gov/police/page/solicitors.
Calling 9-1-1: As always, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1 if a solicitor or any stranger is aggressive, asks to enter your home, or feel unconformable. Never feel obligated to greet an unfamiliar person knocking at your door.

Warm regards,

The Significance of House Numbers
|
|
House numbers play a dual role: they facilitate the identification of addresses and are crucial aids for emergency responders, enabling swift assistance when needed most. In urgent situations, time is of the essence, emphasizing the importance of allowing fire, ambulance, and police personnel to quickly and accurately locate your residence.
It is advisable for all residents of Inverness to take a moment to either install house numbers or inspect existing ones. It is essential that these numbers are easily visible from the street. Consider the following tips:
- While script numbers or spelled-out numbers may be visually appealing, they can be challenging to read quickly from a distance.
- Opt for numbers that contrast sharply with the background.
- If the house is situated more than 45 feet from the street, ensure that the numbers are prominently displayed on a mailbox, lamppost, or another suitable location that is easily visible to approaching vehicles.
- Ensure that shrubs, trees, or decorations such as flags do not obscure the view of the numbers.
- The numbers should be clearly visible from either side of the house.
The Inverness Fire Protection District is offering reflective address posts or reflective mailbox signs for $15 each. If you are interested in purchasing a sign for your residence or have any inquiries, please contact IFPD at 847-991-8700 or via email at info@invernessfpd.org.
By ensuring that house numbers are visible and legible from the street, you aid in the rapid location of responders when needed.
