September 2026 Newsletter

From the Director's Desk

This September, we pause to remember, honor, and support one another.

As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause in solemn remembrance of the lives lost, the families and communities forever changed, and the profound impact of that day on our nation. We honor the courage of the first responders who answered the call and the millions of service members who stepped forward to serve in the years that followed. Twenty-five years later, we carry forward the memory of those we lost with enduring gratitude for all who served, sacrificed, and continue to bear the lasting impact of September 11.

September also marks Hispanic Heritage Month and Suicide Prevention Month.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans, including generations of women who have served our nation. Among them is Colonel Maritza Sáenz Ryan, an Army veteran of Puerto Rican heritage who became the first woman and first Hispanic person to lead the Department of Law at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Suicide Prevention Month reminds us of the importance of connection, conversation, and access to mental health and peer support. If you or someone you know needs support, resources are available:

  • EOVS Statewide Advocacy for Veterans’ Empowerment (SAVE): Peer support and connections to resources. Call (617) 210-5743, email SAVE@mass.gov, or visit SAVE.
  • Veterans Crisis Line: Call 988, then press 1. You do not need to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care—or be in crisis—to connect. Visit Veterans Crisis Line.
  • Massachusetts Behavioral Health Help Line: Available 24/7. Call or text (833) 773-2445 or visit Massachusetts Behavioral Health Help Line.
  • Women Veterans Call Center: Call (855) 829-6636 or visit the Women Veterans Call Center.

Additional health, mental health, and well-being resources for women veterans are available on mass.gov.

Together, we honor those who came before us, support one another today, and continue building a stronger, more connected community for women veterans across Massachusetts.

In Solidarity,

Jessica Frost
