October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Project SAGE is busy preparing for our Annual Community Vigil, which will be held on Tuesday, October 1st. During the Vigil, we commemorate those who have lost their lives to domestic violence in Connecticut during the past year. We will begin at Community Field in Lakeville (10 Sharon Road, next to the Patco Mobil station) at 6:30 pm. A candlelit Remembrance Walk from the field will bring us to our offices at 13a Porter Street, where we will honor the lives lost with readings and a moment of silence. At the conclusion of the program, we invite you to stay for an informal reception with light food and drinks. Parking is available at Community Field.
Immediately prior to the Vigil, we will be highlighting our third year of partnership with Red Sand Project. Conceived of by local artist Molly Gochman, this series of participatory sidewalk installations has occurred in 70 countries and all 50 states and is is designed to raise awareness about human trafficking. Vigil attendees are warmly invited to join Project SAGE at Community Field at 6:15pm to fill the cracks in the sidewalks of our Remembrance Walk route with non-toxic red sand as a way of highlighting those individuals who fall through the cracks -- whether the cracks of our social, economic, and political systems or those of our personal consciousness.
Project SAGE staff, Board members, and volunteers hope to see you at this powerful and meaningful tribute.
