“Love recognizes no barriers….to arrive at its destination full of hope.”

—Maya Angelou

Dear Glenn:

Maya Angelou was not only a celebrated author whose work moved millions, she also was a WILPF sponsor. She wisely said that: "Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” And WILPF needs your financial support to keep this journey of hope alive!

Maya Angelou also said: “Family isn't always blood, it's the people in your life who want you in theirs: the ones who accept you for who you are….” Our WILPF family provides that sense of belonging — an activist home where we get to put our love put into action and work daily to advance peace, human rights, and environmental justice.

2023 is already a monumental year of fresh energy and inspired action for WILPF!

  • In January 2023 – Through our One WILPF Call - “Women, Life, Freedom – Voices of the Iranian Protest,” Speaker Sally Rahimi, described how US women can stand in solidarity with Iranian women. Also, WILPFers from the Disarm/EndWars Issue Committee joined the rally for the 2nd anniversary of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).

  • In February 2023 we released a brief promotional video celebrating our WILPF US family at a Galentine’s Day Zoom Party to promote it on social media. For 107 years, we have consistently stood for peace, environmental justice, and human rights. This snappy collage of photos (accompanied by an original WILPF US chant) captures some memorable WILPF family moments.

  • In addition, the Women, Money, and Democracy (W$D) Committee, along with our ally – Alliance for Just Money, presented the webinar “The Future in Our Pockets: Making Money Work for the Common Good,” which explained how the bank credit system undermines our efforts to build peace and a sustainable environment and gave practical strategies for us to make the money work for us.

  • In March 2023 - We’re back in NY! After a three-year hiatus due to COVID, we have once again instituted the United Nations Practicum in Advocacy for Young Women (Practicum) which is a part Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) meetings. These young students built their knowledge of gender equity issues and overall advocacy skills towards peace and justice efforts.

  • Another exciting WILPF involved CSW event: Cindy Domingo, the Co-Chair of WILPF's Cuba and the Bolivarian Alliance Issues Committee, led the NGO CSW67 forum “US and Cuban Women Reclaim the Media to Advance International Feminist Solidarity” exploring how the US blockade and disinformation campaigns have limited the knowledge and exchange about Cuban women's human rights.

The rest of 2023 is shaping up for the kind of passionate work we do with our WILPF Family. See our monthly eNews for what we are planning. Clearly, all these efforts show that our collective love in action — knows no barriers.
