Tennis & Pickleball Update

Here's everything you need to know to hit the ground running and get the most out of our Tennis and Pickleball programs this summer:

Program Start Dates

The official start date for all lessons and clinics is Monday, July 3. Registration for lessons/clinics on that day will open on Monday, June 26 at 8:00 AM.

The first Ladies Drills will be Thursday, June 29. Registration will open for that at 8:00 AM on Thursday, June 22.

The first Mens Drills will be Friday, June 30. Registration will open for that at 8:00 AM on Friday, June 23.

Clinics

As we progress into the season, we adjust clinic times, durations and levels. The most up-to-date schedule can be found on CourtReserve on the Tennis & Pickleball tab.

The morning adult clinics will be separated by skill level:

  • Advanced Plus: 4.0 and above
  • Advanced: 3.5 and above
  • Intermediate: 3.0 and above
  • Novice

If you are uncertain which clinic to sign up for, please ask our Head Pros, Aidan Quennec or Steven Wells, for guidance.

Free-Play Court and Private Lesson Booking Rules

  1. Courts may be booked up to one full week in advance.
  2. Every member is allowed three advance free-play bookings (within the available-to-be-booked week).
  3. Every person is allowed one private lesson weekly on a weekday (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday) and another private lesson on weekends.
  4. If a lesson/court is available to be booked 24 hours in advance, it will not count towards your weekly allotment.

SLYC Survey and the 2023 Tennis Program

There were some thoughtful insights and feedback on the tennis program that came from our annual SLYC Members survey. We really appreciate hearing your views and have tried to reflect them wherever possible in this summer's tennis offerings.

It's clear that many of you value the youth and adult clinics/lessons. We get more members on a court when we run these, and although that takes away from the amount of time that's available for free play, it's also a large component of the revenue that we generate to be able to run the program.

The annual club tennis tournament was also deemed important by those who participate, but that can also conflict with the amount of free time available. This summer, we're aiming to start the tournament earlier and schedule as many matches in off-peak times as possible. The sign-up deadline for all categories of this year's tournament is July 10, and the matches start on July 15. Registration for tournament play must be completed online or at the Tennis Hut, and you must be available to play matches between July 15 and August 6 to participate.

We will block off three 40-minute sessions for private lessons from 7:00-9:00 AM during the week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday). This seems to be a good balance between helping members improve their game and not tying up too much free-play court time.

We have decided to postpone the resurfacing of Court 3 and the Pickleball court due to a delay with the contractor. Both of these courts are still playable.

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to complete the survey and provide feedback.

CourtReserve — New Online Booking System

As announced in the spring, CourtReserve is our new online booking system, and it seems to be working well. To book a court or lesson, please make sure you and your family members have registered and paid for your SLYC membership.

See you on the courts!
