| | | Next Week is College Counseling Week! | | |
We are delighted that Robert Kostrzeski (Mr. K), our Director of College Counseling (usually remote), will be with us on campus next week! Last year Mr. K gave several community presentations about the benefits of Waldorf education in both the college application process and throughout the entire college experience.
Mr. K is already very connected with our older students and is working with them and their families as they navigate, or begin to explore, the college application process!
It will be a week full of college counseling meetings and events for the WWS learning community. Mr. K will host coffees with parents from Grades 9-11, and meet with the seniors individually. Grade 11 will take the PSAT and attend a workshop designed to help them as they consider future careers, interests, and possibilities after WWS.
The week will culminate in a joint coffee/tea gathering with the head of school. More information to come!
| | |
Mr. K has worked in education and admissions counseling for 26 years. He has been the Director of College Counseling for the Waldorf School of the Peninsula for over two years and has worked with the School of International Training (VT), the University of Arizona, The Gregory School (AZ), Drew School, Wildwood School (CA), and the Awty International School (TX). He serves/served on various boards including MaiaLearning and EAB Global Concourse (educational college counseling related platforms). He enjoyed his role as Co-Chair of the International ACAC (Association of College Admission Counseling) Pre-Conference Institute, and as a faculty member having trained hundreds of counselors.
Mr. K is dedicated to studying wellness, adolescent mental health, and the self-discovery that goes along with the college/university application process. He believes that every young person needs a trusted sounding board and someone who sees the best in them.

Welcome Back Picnic
Thank You & Survey
| | |
Thank you for joining us for our Picnic last Friday! We hope you enjoyed the chance to gather, connect/reconnect, and start the new school year together.
We made a few changes to this year’s picnic, and we’d love to hear what you thought. Please take a few minutes to complete our short survey so we can use your feedback to plan an even better gathering next year.
Back to School Picnic Survey
A special thank you to our volunteers: Josh Bryant, Seife Girmay, Elena Guthrie, Patricia Casbas Hernandez, Diana Hincapie, Ramu Pyreddy, Nicole Simon, CJ Stumbo, Helina Tedla, Kentaro Tohma, and Jesse Travis.
Our events are growing, which is wonderful! As they get bigger, we need more helping hands to make them possible. These gatherings depend on our volunteers, and we need more families to pitch in so we can continue offering the events that bring our community together. Thank you for helping us make this WWS tradition the best it can be!
| | |
We are currently hiring for two part-time shuttle bus driver positions - for the morning/afternoon shuttles between WWS and Silver Spring and Takoma Park as well as afternoon athletics shuttles. If you, or someone you know, might be interested, please reach out!

Voices of Waldorf Elders is an independent oral-history project preserving the stories and hard-earned wisdom of longtime Waldorf educators for teachers, families, and future generations.
The most recent episode is an interview with longtime WWS Class Teacher, Jack Petrash, who taught 4 classes for the full Grades 1-8 span at WWS. The episode is a biographical conversation that starts with Jack's journey as a young adult that led him to teaching and Waldorf education. They also discuss the craft of good teaching, the essential paradoxes of education, and Jack's efforts to build bridges between Waldorf and mainstream education.

Family Program at the Christian Community
Dear Parents,
The Christian Community is a church movement that has common roots with the Waldorf School movement. Our local congregation is located on a beautiful two-acre property in College Park, MD.
Our Family Program includes:
- Gatherings on select Sundays at 9:15am. We begin with singing & story/conversation, followed by a ritual in the chapel specifically designed for children 7 to 14 years old (initially created for Waldorf students). Childcare is also provided during our communion service.
- Festival gatherings around Michaelmas, Advent, Christmas, Easter, and St. John’s and other family-oriented activities throughout the year.
If you would like to know more and/or receive a schedule of our activities for the fall, please contact Rev. Daniel Kalinov at dkalinov@thechristiancommunity.org or Camilla Lake (WWS Alum parent) at camillalake63@gmail.com.
