Trinity Weekly News

July 23, 2026 | Trinity Episcopal Church, Staunton, Virginia

Next Wednesday is the last Mass on the Grass of the summer. If you've been holding back because it's July and you're roasting, don't: if it's too hot or stormy, we move the service and picnic indoors to McCracken Hall. So come anyway! 6 pm.

It's not August yet, but it is coming up quickly. The first notable events include the August 6 Eucharist for the Feast of the Transfiguration at 5:30 pm, and the next Game Gathering at 4 pm on Sunday, August 9. More on the horizon.

WE'RE SEEKING DOCENTS

Tom Howell leads Trinity's newest docents through their first training session.

Trinity's docent ministry is growing, and we are seeking more people interested in learning about our grounds well enough to show them off. Docents lead tours for visitors curious about the architecture, the history, the churchyard, all 280 years of it. Tell the real story behind the Tiffany windows instead of just pointing and saying "aren't they pretty!"

For a good while now, Tom Howell has been taking the lead in telling our story. As a docent, Tom often makes himself available for tours, and his knowledge of the parish runs deep. When The Stauntonian set out to write its recent piece on Trinity's history, they came to Tom. He compiled the training materials, and now he is leading our new docents through them. Curious what a docent does? Ask Tom when you see him around!

This Monday, July 27, from 2 to 3:30 pm, Tom leads the next training session. Register at bit.ly/trinitydocent. If that's too soon, more trainings are coming in September. Contact Rev. Cara for details or to be added to the list for the fall.

DID YOU KNOW?

Ever wonder where the bulletins go once the last hymn is sung? Or the recycling that piles up after preparing meals for Noon Lunch, or for Tuesdays at Trinity suppers (returning in September!)? More often than not, it’s Carey McCallum collecting the recycling from around the Parish House and driving it over to the recycling center. It’s easy to set something in a bin without thinking about where it goes next. Carey thinks about it, week after week, and Trinity runs a little smoother for it!

Know someone who keeps things running behind the scenes and deserves a moment of recognition? Tell Katie so we can feature them. We have a lot of people to thank!
