TODAY IS WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY!

CELEBRATING WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY, BRINGING BREAD TO SHARE, PRAYER STATIONS
World Communion Sunday is a celebratory Sunday that invites us to think beyond the walls of our own congregation. On this day, people around the world celebrate Communion as an act of radical unity. We encourage you to bring bread to share. Please bring your bread to the communion table in the Sanctuary by 9:45am.
While we gather at our own Table to celebrate Christ’s joyful feast,
we will also remember, with fondness, our siblings in faith celebrating this same meal around the world. We will also pray for the whole world with interactive prayer stations rather than a sermon.
Livestream community: Maybe bring a different kind of bread than usual to your communion table at home for blessing. See below about prayer stations during Sunday worship.

By respecting this area, we hope to make attending church a more welcoming, accessible and pleasant experience for everyone. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Next Sunday at 10am, we will celebrate The Blessing of the Animals. It's a joyous service to bless our beloved pets right here in our Sanctuary and to give thanks for all animals. Bring your dogs, cats, birds, bearded dragons, or any other well-behaved animal to receive a blessing. (Please remember to keep your animal companions on leashes or in carriers.) Let us show our appreciation for these amazing creatures who bring so much joy into our lives!
|
As a BONUS treat, separate from the pet blessings that will take place during Sunday worship in the Sanctuary, Rob Iracane will present a slideshow of our very own furred and feathered critters. This will be shown during a special Coffee Hour following the service with tasty goodies available for pets and their humans.
We are asking for digital photos of your pets (living or passed on) to be displayed via PowerPoint.
Please email your selected photos to unioncongblessing@gmail.com no later than this Wednesday, October 9. Feel free to contact Della Smith, Rob Iracane or Kim in the church office with any questions. See you with your animal friends at church next week. It'll be a hoot!

UCC PLAYERS FUNDRAISER FILM NIGHT: MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18 AT 7PM IN THE ASSEMBLY ROOM
|
Hey there!
Please mark your calendars to join UCC Players in their screening of this wonderful film, MR SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON, followed by a friendly discussion at UCC, 176 Cooper Ave, Montclair, NJ October 18 at 7PM.
It's election season, and we thought examining civics from a time gone by would be a pleasant and revealing distraction from current day politics, as well as informative and even refreshing.
Carlos Valdes-Dapena will moderate a discussion after the film.
You are welcome to bring your dinner, friends and family for this event, which is free.
Any donations will go to the UCC Players.
We have plans to produce another cabaret night in January, and a spring production, and welcome your participation and support!
https://app.aplos.com/aws/give/UnionCongregationalChurch1 - please be sure to mark UCC Players as your donation's purpose.

RACIAL JUSTICE MINISTRY TEAM MEETING
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15 AT 7PM ON ZOOM
One of the church's Missional Priorities for 2023-2024 recognizes our sense of God's call to us, as Christians, and as a predominantly white congregation, to engage more deeply by discerning where and how the body of Union Congregational Church can and ought to learn from, support, and journey with changemakers in our local communities, county, and state to transform dynamics of racialized exclusion, harm, and trauma into patterns and experiences of human solidarity and/for inclusive thriving and racial justice. We invite every member of the congregation to join us in this work.
The Zoom link for the 7pm meeting on Tuesday, October 15th will be on the front page of the church website and in the online calendar listing.
