Monthly News & Updates

January/February 2025

Dear Residents & Community Members,

We've had quite the weather pattern these past few weeks and if our friend Punxsutawney Phil is to be trusted, we are in for several more weeks of winter! A special thank you to our town Highway Department employees as well as the crews from our surrounding municipalities for working hard to ensure our roadways are cleared and remain as safe as possible when faced with what are often dangerous conditions.

Speaking of winter, as we all know, the weather elements can take a significant toll on our roadways. Although not a town maintained road, many frustrated residents continue to contact the town regularly to voice their concerns about the dangers of navigating State Route 17M, a road that is clearly in need of a major overhaul. Their number one question remains: “What is being done to fix the issues?”  In the past several years, the town has reached out to the state advocating for the repair of this road. While stretches of Route 17M have been repaired, there is still significant work to be done. Most recently, the town joined with the villages as well as Senator Skoufis, Assemblymembers Chris Eachus and Karl Brabenec in reaching out to the Regional Director of the New York State Department of Transportation urging that action be taken to address these dire repairs. A copy of the letter is included below for your review.

With Valentine's Day on the horizon, please remember to patronize the many wonderful businesses that call our town home. Whether it's a meal enjoyed out or taken in, flowers, candy, jewelry or more, dollars spent locally on this holiday and throughout the year ensure our local businesses continue to thrive, even in the most challenging of situations.

Best wishes for a wonderful month ahead,

Tony Cardone

Bake the World A Better Place!

On Monday, February 3rd, the Town Board honored Monroe residents and twin sisters Hailee and Madison Lendor of Double Baked Culinary for their outstanding efforts in raising money for a neighbor after their home was recently destroyed by a fire. Through social media and word of mouth, the twins gathered cookie orders from the community with the goal of raising money to assist their neighbor in need. This resulted in an unbelievable response yielding 1,500 cookies baked and $2,000 raised which was donated to assist the family.

In presenting Hailee and Madison with "Bake the World a Better Place" aprons adorned with the Town of Monroe's "Making an Impact" pin, Supervisor Cardone praised them for their empathy, kindness, and true community spirit. Thank you, Hailee and Madison for "baking a difference" in the Town of Monroe!
