Hello!
We are so excited to welcome Peter Geye back to Books & Company for his new novel, The Ski Jumpers. Author Peter Heller says it best: "The Ski Jumpers is a remarkable story about love: between two brothers, and between a father and son. But it's also about the intense love of place, and a time in three lives when gravity had less hold and a spirit might fly. Peter Geye brilliantly captures the physicality of our connection to a landscape and to the moments when—despite incalculable loss—we bring the best of ourselves."
Ski Jumpers has everything I love about Peter Geye's novels - he is a master at creating a sense of place, building on the tension within a family while stretching the secrets and stories left unspoken until they are so taut they nearly break us.
Fun fact: Peter was a ski jumper and jumped here in Oconomowoc at the old ski jump on Ski Slide road!
September’s Readings from Oconomowaukee takes us across the pond to have a conversation with Matt Cain, author of The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle. A bit of a Tiktok phenomenon, this story has found its way into the hearts of many booksellers at both Boswell and Books & Company. This is an afternoon virtual event, perfect for a late lunch or an early tea.
Amy Reichert will be in conversation with Sonali Dev for the book release celebration of Amy's latest novel, Once Upon a December, a story that begins at the Milwaukee Christmas Market with a wonderful dip into a magical alley. Love, adventure, Christmas, and Amy’s warmth & wit, could you want anymore? Well, yes, a side of Kringle and a spirited cup of cocoa would do just fine. Sonali Dev, author of The Emma Project is joining us from Chicago. Her Rajes Series spins a little Jane Austen perspective onto an immigrant Indian family’s daily life (they are descendants of royalty) in San Francisco. This is sure to be a fun and lively conversation and celebration!
And don't miss our afternoon event for True North Cabin Cookbook with author Stephanie Hansen in conversation with Kurt Johnson, author of The Barrens. It'll be a true north experience with samples, stories, and great conversation. The True North Cabin Cookbook is full of delicious recipes, beautiful photographs, and fun stories.

Bookseller Katrina says "I just couldn't stop reading this book. The first full account of the Slenderman case, we see how mental illness spiraled into horror. The author is from Waukesha, WI and provides inside insight into the culture of the Midwest. More than just a rundown of violence that occurred, this book also tells of how mental illness and incarceration is dealt with in Wisconsin- especially for youth. Very well done."

Family secrets. Forbidden love. And the true price of wealth. Bookseller Susie says "I had fun reading this fast paced novel that takes you into the lives of the elites in Hollywood. It is a creative coming of age love story that leaves you wanting to know what happens next to Matilda Duplaine. "

Bookseller Lynn says "Originally published in 2019, this is one of those books that continuously appears on recommended reading lists. Red and Blue are the most talented time travelling agents in their rival companies. They begin to leave letters for each other, sabotaging and taunting and, eventually, realizing they have come to care for each other.
This is one of the most sophisticated, complex, sci-fi/love stories I have ever read with an amazing twist at the end."

Fascinating, witty, and humane, Fuzz offers hope for compassionate coexistence in our ever-expanding human habitat.

In this riveting account of an area of Appalachia known as the Quiet Zone where cell phones and WiFi are banned, journalist Stephen Kurczy explores the pervasive role of technology in our lives and the innate human need for quiet. This is a remarkable work of investigative journalism—at once a stirring ode to place, a tautly wound tale of mystery, and a clarion call to reexamine the role technology plays in our lives.
