Sunnyvale Announces New Town Manager

Sunnyvale’s Town Council has named a new Town Manager. Dannette Garcia will begin serving as Town Manager on April 20.

Garcia brings more than 17 years of experience in municipal government and the private sector. She comes to Sunnyvale from the City of Richardson, where she has served as assistant city manager since 2023. Her service in Richardson was marked by a strong reputation for professionalism and collaborative leadership. She oversaw that city’s public services, library, community services and health department operations.

Sunnyvale Mayor Saji George expressed the Town Council’s enthusiasm for the appointment of Ms. Garcia, noting that the Council conducted a thoughtful search to ensure alignment with Sunnyvale’s vision and goals. He highlighted her strong commitment to public service and proven leadership in both large and smaller municipalities. Mayor George added that she joins at a pivotal time as the Town advances key capital improvement projects, including a new Town Hall, Police Station, Animal Services Center, and public library, and expressed confidence in her ability to help lead Sunnyvale’s continued success.

Ms. Garcia says she is excited for the opportunity to work with Sunnyvale’s staff and elected officials. “I see the Town of Sunnyvale as an organization and a community with a great many positive attributes. I look forward to working with the Mayor, Town Council and Town staff to maximize those attributes. I believe my experience and background can be utilized to help Sunnyvale’s vision thrive and move forward.”

Garcia has a bachelor’s degree in political science and a Master of Public Administration, both from the University of North Texas. She has served on the International City and County Management Association (ICMA) Advisory Board on Graduate Education, as an ICMA Chapter Mentor, Urban Management Assistants of North Texas (UMANT) Executive Committee and Scholarship Chair and is an active member of the North Texas City Management Association.

Charter Amendment Election

Early Voting Begins April 20

Sunnyvale voters will consider a slate of proposed Town Charter amendments on May 2. Many of these updates would bring the Charter into compliance with State law updates, address any legal or administrative issues, and improve the effective application of the Charter to current conditions.

The proposed amendments include the creation of a Parks and Recreation Board and the requirement for a Library Board, which currently exists.

The proposed amendments also include term limits for the Mayor and Town Council members and would change the Mayor's term from two years to three years.

Early voting will be available at Sunnyvale Town Hall, 127 N. Collins Road as follows:

April 21 - 24 (Tues-Friday) 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

April 25 (Saturday) 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

April 26 (Sunday) noon - 6 p.m.

April 27 - April 28 (Mon - Tues) 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Election day voting is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., also at Sunnyvale Town Hall.

Spend some time with other seniors and prepare to be an informed voter.

And the Winner is...

In March, various Town of Sunnyvale departments visited with the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter’s animals and took fun photos with them to raise awareness about adopting shelter pets.

We invited everyone to vote for their favorite photo by hitting "Like" or "Love" on the individual photos in our Facebook post.

We have a winner! The picture with the most votes was from Courts! Their photos featured the pups, with signs like “no objection to adopting me,” “charged with excessive cuteness,” and “guilty for stealing hearts!”

Congratulations to Courts and many thanks to everyone who voted and helped raise awareness about pet adoption.

Pet Contest Winner: Courts
Weekly Pets: Beau

Be Buds with Beau!

Beau is a three-year-old male Terrier: Beau is a quiet, chill fellow. He is more the type who would prefer to watch the game on TV than go be the athlete, especially when game snacks are served! Beau is already neutered and is currently on his vaccines. He'd love to make your acquaintance at the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter. Please stop by and visit!

We would love for you to share this with others and bring awareness to the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter's animals and services. If your family is ready to welcome a new member, we currently have many adoptable pets in our shelter looking for a loving home. Learn more by visiting our Petfinder page or calling (214) 862-4525.
