Y’s Men Membership News

Saturday, May 17, 2025

Hello, Y’s Men!

Thanks to the sound financial management of Y's Men President Bruce Borner, Treasurer Francois Auzerais, Sr., and Assistant Treasurer Jay Ludy, our organization is well-prepared for economic changes, and we don’t anticipate a dues increase next year.

No need to worry! Our coffee, tea, bagels, and donuts will continue on Thursdays!

We typically see about a 10 percent membership turnover annually, so ongoing recruitment is essential. Thanks to your efforts, we’ve welcomed 107 new members this year! If you know someone interested in joining, please share the Y’s Men website with them!

On June 1, I’ll be transitioning to focus on our speakers program. I encourage you to suggest potential speakers who can engage and inspire our audience that values the high-quality, substantive presentations our dedicated and diverse committee is known for curating.

Your recommendations are always welcome and help us continue to deliver the engaging and thought-provoking programs our members expect. Don’t hesitate to share your ideas with us!

The Y’s Men Membership team (above) gathered on Thursday for an upbeat and productive meeting, preparing a smooth leadership transition to Harvey Luft as the new Membership Chairman. The group welcomed Harvey’s fresh perspective while focusing on new ways to make joining the club more welcoming and engaging. Highlights included plans to launch a mentorship program for new members and update club materials to reflect the vibrant, diverse community the Y’s Men have always been.

From the left (in the photo) are Bill Blaufuss, Sunil Mehra, Baxter Urist, Steve Kunkes, Harvey Luft, Dewey Loselle, Francois Auzerais, Sr., Incoming President Michael Boyle, Tucker Hayes, and current president E. Bruce Borner. Outgoing Membership Chairman Allan Siegert is missing from the photo but represented by his Mac (next to Bruce) as he moved back to take this photo at 597 Westport Ave. (current home to eight Y's Men in what used to be the Pepperidge Farm HQ).

This week Clarence Hayes interviewed new member Bill Macey.

Bill Macey: Private Equity Pioneer, Mentor, and Civic Volunteer

Bill Macey

Raised in Atlanta, Bill was the only Jewish boy in his class, subject to uncomfortable hazing. He was also underachieving relative to his abilities until a challenge from his father -- “If you get into an Ivy, maybe you don’t have to go to University of Georgia…” -- turned him into a straight-A student. He graduated from Dartmouth in 1975 and Yale Law School in 1978.

Bill began his legal career at Cravath, Swaine & Moore, then pivoted to investment banking, joining Smith Barney’s M&A team in 1983. He became a managing director in 1989, during the 80’s takeover boom. By 1992, Bill co-founded Sterling Investment Partners, a Westport-based private equity firm. Their early deals were highly successful, allowing them to raise their first fund in 1999.

In 1992, Bill and his wife Sharon moved to Weston and had three children. They later relocated to Wilton to be closer to their kids’ school and activities. Now in its 33rd year, Sterling Partners is still thriving, but Bill, now 71, expects to have more time as the younger partners assume management roles in the firm.

Sharon launched the podcast Mom To More©, now in the top 2.5 percent of podcasts globally – a tough act to follow! Bill is active with, and a significant contributor to, No Labels, the national political reform group. He also continues to mentor a few startups for the fun of it, and maintains a strong exercise routine.

But as he looks ahead, he expects to have more time for active community service — so Bill joined the Y’s Men to meet others in a similar place and perhaps find new inspiration.

Continued membership growth is crucial for the club’s long-term health and financial stability. Do you have a friend who’d be a good fit? Share the membership application link with them.

We thank these Y’s Men who have referred new members during this fiscal year!
