Miami’s Once “Colored Only Beach”.
Learn the Story That Began in 1945
Welcome to Paradise Renewed!!

Established on August 1, 1945 as Miami’s ‘Colored Only Beach’ immediately became a spot for social gatherings to tourists and residents who made trips to enjoy amenities such as the carousel, the dancing pavilion or the mini-train that would run through the enormous park.
Now, characterized by a unique and precious natural environment, the City of Miami’s largest recreational jewel serves as the ultimate recreational location for those who want to bask in the splendor of the sun and ocean.

Celebrate Women's History Month
Museum Corner: Building Coalition and Fostering the Future of Design
As the Miami landscapes continue to evolve and transform, I am an advocate for the preservation of communities of color like Liberty City, Historic Overtown, Coconut Grove and now Historic Virginia Key Beach Park; to transform it into a cultural destination for residents and visitors alike.

Being the first elected Black President of the American Institute of Architects, I realized that African American architects are vastly underrepresented in public sector projects.

I invite young people interested in the profession of architecture and design to come learn and experience the profession first hand.

Signed,

Mr. Neil Hall

Virginia Key Beach Park Trust Welcomes
Commissioner Covo
The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust welcomes Commissioner Covo to the City of Miami Commission and the Virginia Key Beach Park Board of Trustees.

Mrs. Sabina Covo has been a long-time resident of Miami and has seen firsthand some of the issues that affect the City of Miami. As a recent addition to the City of Miami Commission she brings invaluable experience as an investigative reporter not only to the commission, but as well as the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust. Mrs. Sabina Covo wants to make sure the City of Miami is built for the future and is prepared to take on issues such as climate change and sea level rise, an issue that affects Historic Virginia Key Beach Park daily.

As well as becoming involved in the political sphere of Miami Mrs. Sabina Covo has many years of volunteer experience with Sharing for Kids, a nonprofit that focuses on social development programs for kids in Cartagena, Colombia.
Sunset Salute Sherrelle Sue Germain
This month the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust salutes the late Sherrelle Sue Germain.

Mrs. Sherrelle Germain was the wife of former trustee, Miguel Germain, as well as a trustee herself. Born in Alabama, she moved to Miami in the late 1960’s where she spent the rest of her life. She advocated for members of the community, ensured people were treated fairly, and was a loving and compassionate person to others. She was known to write poetry which was published in The Miami Herald

You will never be forgotten. Rest in Paradise!
