The Message this Week

Preaching Text: Luke 19:29-44

The triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The people are cheering and shouting and spreading their cloaks before Jesus as he rides, not on a horse or in a chariot, but on a young donkey, that hadn’t been ridden, that they took from a resident of a village. The cheering part sounds triumphant, but after that it breaks down a bit. The parade is disrupted by Jesus weeping over Jerusalem, over missed opportunities, over the pain that will come.  How is this a triumph?

Mighty God, help us to remember that the story of Jesus is a story of unexpected turns and reversals and we are called to trust that God is present in these moments. Lord, let us see again! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WONDERING...

  • Protect those who face hostility or oppression for their faith. Humble those who would use faith to dominate others and reinforce their own power.
  • Make us attentive to your holy presence in the world, that we may care for the earth you love.
  • Let your face shine upon the leaders of nations and let the same mind be in them as was in Christ Jesus, so that those with the most power may humble themselves to serve the most vulnerable.
  • Console all who experience times of trial or suffering.
  • Give strength to those who will lead worship during Holy Week.
  • We give thanks to you for our beloved dead, trusting that as the cross of Jesus led to the empty tomb, so you welcome those who have died into the paradise of your presence.

Receive the prayers of your people and draw all things together in your love, in the name of Jesus, who leads us from death to life. Amen.

Thank you very much for the soup and goodies that were delivered yesterday. Veggie soup is my favorite. I remember eating alphabet soup growing up. Loved getting them. Sincerely, Karen
