July 2025

On Saturday, June 28th, the 13th Annual Hooks for Hunger Walleye Tournament was held. The day started off humid with a light southwest breeze. The Avon Lake boat ramp was packed with over 200 fishermen on 60 different teams who were setting out to try and catch their biggest bag of 5 fish. At 2 pm the grills were smoking and the awesome volunteers, alongside the amazing owners of Jake's on the Lake, had a huge spread of food ready for everyone.

When the weigh-ins were complete, Team Baird came out on top with 30.40 pounds for five fish, followed closely by Team Berthold in second place with 30.20 pounds, and Team Miller in third with 30.00 pounds. The $1,500 prize for the biggest walleye went to Adrian Brown and his crew, who weighed in a 9.4-pound whopper! Cliff Waters and his team took home the $1,000 cash prize for their 12.10-pound sheephead!

This year's event, with the incredible help from all of our local sponsors and the local fishing community, raised over $21,500 to put the lifetime donations to $298,000! Thank you to all of the participants, sponsors, donors and especially the volunteers on the Hooks for Hunger committee for supporting this incredible event!

Another huge thank you to Jeff at Jeff Barnes Photography for the amazing photographs he took at the event. CLICK HERE to see all the photos and please reach out to Jeff if you would like to purchase any.
