RAWtools Events Coming Up May 28th and June 7th
On May 28th at 11:00 a.m., here at Haywood Street, RAWtools South will lead a blacksmithing demonstration in which metal from a destroyed firearm will be hammered, forged, and reformed into a garden tool. During the demonstration, we will honor and remember community members who have been affected by gun violence by speaking their names. The object will then be blessed during our worship service at 12:30.
And on June 7th, faith communities and non-profits from across the region will host, in partnership with RAWtools South, the Third Annual Gun Safe Surrender from 12:30-3:30 pm at The First Baptist Church of Asheville, 5 Oak Street.
See the flyer below for more information. If you have questions or would like more information about how to be involved, email April.

| | Haywood Street Highlights |
Every day at Haywood Street tells a story—of connection, compassion, and the sacredness of showing up for one another.
In the kitchen, Jinnia gathers companions around, reviewing the Welcome Table menu with intention and gently grounding us in our shared purpose. Nearby, the sounds of piano fill the room as friends gather—sharing talent, lifting each other up with every note.
| Laura, the steady heartbeat of the Welcome Table, leads with grace, reminding us all to pause, to breathe, to care for one another deeply and often. ML serves up pork chops with a warm spirit and a smile that nourishes far more than just the body. | At the dining entrance, Jill and Rosi welcome everyone with laughter, big hearts, and that unmistakable spark of joy. James quietly walks beside friends in Mercy League style—step by loving step, kindness leading the way. |
Asheville Street Feet carries out sacred work, tending to tired feet with tenderness and respect. And in the art room, raw talent and unfiltered beauty blaze from every corner, continuing to take our breath away.
This is what grace looks like when it takes on flesh and shows up for lunch.

| Respite Expansion Updates | |
Haywood Street is just a few months away from breaking ground on our Respite expansion! It’s really happening, and we’re getting closer to nailing down a date to start this summer!
Our current respite program has 12 beds and provides a place for individuals experiencing homelessness to recover after an acute hospital stay. With our planned expansion, we’ll grow to 25 beds and extend our support to include individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges as well.
| |
We're continuing to raise funds to reach the finish line and create a space that offers improved accessibility, more beds and community areas, greater support, and a beautiful, functional environment for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
We’re 75% of the way toward our $2 million goal, and we’re almost there!
If you'd like to contribute to this significant project, click the donate button below. Everything that we do is because of generosity like yours!
| | A witness to include the most excluded, Haywood Street not only welcomes every child of God–especially beloved siblings of every mental illness and physical disability, addiction and diagnosis, living condition and employment status, gender identity and sexual orientation, class, color, and creed–but we celebrate your presence, certain that the kingdom of God is coming closer because you are here. | | | | |
