Keeping Track of Monetary Donations
As the end of the calendar year approaches so does the annual tsunami of charitable donation requests via email and the US Postal mail. I don't know about you, but I find the onslaught distracting and overwhelming.

Since I tend to spread out my giving and make monetary donations to various charities throughout the year, my "go-to" strategy for tracking my donations is a folder in my file cabinet labeled CHARITABLE RECEIPTS + YEAR. This folder holds the paper receipts/confirmations for all our donations so we can locate them quickly and easily when it's time to file our taxes. Even though I could accomplish this task digitally, I like to use paper, and rather than fighting my preference, I go with it!

Over the years of helping clients, I've witnessed a variety of different ways to keep track of donations. So besides keeping a paper folder to hold receipts, perhaps one of these methods will resonate with you:

  1. Have a designated credit card used for charitable donations.
  2. Have a designated checkbook roster for listing charitable donations.
  3. Keep a small notebook to write-in all charitable donations (name of charity, date, & amount).
  4. Scan paper receipts for digital storage by year.
  5. Flag email confirmations and file digitally by year.

Any of these methods, when used consistently, offer a historical glimpse of your annual monetary donations. What method did I miss? Tell me what works for you. Email me at jocelyn@kenner.org.

FAQs

How long will the In-Focus Group session be?

The session will run for 1 hour.
As an optional bonus, I will stay on for an additional 15 minutes to answer questions

What can I expect from the In-Focus session?

  1. The first 5 minutes we will introduce ourselves and tell the group briefly what we intend to work on.
  2. The next 50 minutes we will work independently on our own tasks with the sound OFF, and the camera ON.
  3. The final 5 minutes we will report back to the group how the session went.
  4. You can leave or stay for the extra 15 minutes of Q & A

Why should I try this?

  • Accountability is a powerful motivator!
  • Working independently and side-by-side with another person encourages focus and concentration! This is why libraries and coffee shops are sought-after workspaces.
  • Misery loves company - hahaha!
  • It's free and what have you got to lose?

Send an email to jocelyn@kenner.org to indicate you would like to participate, and I will send you a private zoom link just for this group. Please do not share the link with others.
