Dear Partners,

With the school year well underway, I am excited to share the remarkable progress happening across LAUSD. Thanks to the dedication of our educators, staff, and partners, LAUSD students are achieving record-breaking academic growth.

On CAASPP state assessments, LAUSD students achieved record-high scores in ELA, Math, and Science, marking three consecutive years of steady growth. Notably, district math proficiency reached 39.8%, surpassing the state average of 38.4% alongside strong gains across all core subjects. Leading this progress, our targeted Priority Schools initiative outpaced districtwide growth and continued to narrow long-standing achievement gaps.

While work remains, these results reflect the power of strategic investments, high-quality instruction, and strong community support. Thank you for your partnership as we maintain this momentum and ensure every student has the opportunity they deserve.

Warmly,

Sadie Stockdale Jefferson

Hard Problems Workshop Drives Cross-Sector Solutions

On October 5, 2026, the LAUSD Education Foundation and Arizona State University’s Learning Transformation Studios co-hosted The Hard Problems Workshop at the historic ASU Herald Examiner Building. Bringing together nearly 50 leaders from across LAUSD, local philanthropy, and partner organizations, the session fostered candid reflection and collaborative design. Participants engaged in deep-dive breakout discussions tackling critical challenges across early childhood education, arts and music access, innovative teaching and technology, community engagement, and workforce readiness. The dynamic day generated actionable ideas and fresh momentum for ongoing collaboration to drive meaningful change for Los Angeles students and families.

Thank you to all participants and partners for bringing so much energy, candor, and collaborative spirit to this important and continuing conversation.

Partnership + Impact

Spreeing in Style with the Chargers

Teachers at Samuel Gompers Middle School received a special boost for the school year through an annual Target shopping spree made possible by Cam Dicker, the Wholeheartedly Foundation, and the Los Angeles Chargers. The teachers stocked up on essential classroom supplies and resources to help support their students throughout the year.

Thank you to the Chargers and the Wholeheartedly Foundation for making sure our teachers have the tools they need for success!

Amazon Powers Up South Gate Classrooms

Teachers and students across South Gate schools received an incredible back-to-school boost thanks to Amazon providing $25,000 through DonorsChoose for classroom projects, complete with a backpack and supply giveaway. The funding and supplies directly supported classrooms and helped teachers prepare for a successful school year. We are deeply grateful to Amazon for funding critical classroom projects and equipping our students.

Soccer & Supplies with LAFC

Students at Eastman Elementary and Early Education in Boyle Heights enjoyed an exciting day of soccer, fun, and new backpacks alongside special guest LAFC goalkeeper Cabral Carter. The memorable event brought community spirit and essential supplies directly to our students to kick off the school year. Huge thanks to LAFC for bringing so much excitement and enthusiasm to our young learners!

Support LAUSD Unhoused Students

19th Annual Sponsor-a-Family Drive

More than 18,000 LAUSD students are currently experiencing homelessness, making the holiday season a particularly challenging time for them and their families.

That's why we’ve launched the 19th Annual Sponsor a Family drive with the LAUSD Homeless Education Office and this year, we are trying to support 1,000 families with essentials and holiday cheer.

How Your Support Helps

Your generous contribution provides holiday meals, thoughtful gifts, and vital supplies directly to LAUSD families in need this season.

Last year, through the community's support, we raised $150,000—ensuring that, for the first time in our program's history, every single family who requested help received it. To reach 1,000 families this year, we have set a goal of $200,000.

Will you help us reach our goal and make a lasting impact?
