Greetings!
We're excited to begin the 2021 Summer Reading season! Join us as we continue developing a daily habit of reading for 15 minutes. This year's program is once again for all ages, as well as for all RSU1 students. Any child or young adult (through grade 12) who finishes their first log will be mailed a $10 "Gift of Bath" card, and each time a participant (of any age!) completes a reading log, they will be entered in our end-of-summer raffle of five $25 "Gift of Bath" cards. Pick up a copy of this year’s materials at the library or print a reading log and our FAQs from home.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend, and remember that the Library is closed on Monday.
Stay well.
Lesley Dolinger
Library Director

Donations Making a Difference
Your support this year has helped us serve our community during an unsettled time. We have been able to boost our WiFi signal and expand our outdoor seating. We've engaged a batch of budding bakers with our virtual Edible Book contest. With a grant from the McKeen Center for the Common Good, we're able to launch a Homebound Delivery service. Your support will help us to maintain and expand the program. Our Town History Series broke attendance records and our History Room programming has allowed us to connect with former neighbors living in distant states. Our Poetry Walk celebrating National Poetry Month was widely appreciated by community members. Our computer access and in-person support remains as popular as ever. Youth have been able to participate in story times, art lessons, nature experiments, take-home STEM and craft kits, and so much more. We have been able to create new connection opportunities because of your financial commitment to our mission. We have a few weeks left before our fiscal year comes to a close. Will you help us with a gift today so that we may continue to innovate and serve our community? Every gift makes a difference! Read ME Kick-Off
Friday, June 4 at 11 a.m. on Facebook
Read ME is a statewide summer reading program offered by the Maine Humanities Council and Maine State Library that gets Maine’s adults all reading the same books. Each year a well-known Maine author recommends two titles by lesser-known Maine authors. 2021’s featured books—recommended by Gerry Boyle—are Mill Town by Kerri Arsenault and Mainely Power by Matt Cost.
The season officially kicks off with a special live Facebook episode of Maine Calling. If you are interested in joining this event, click here. You can also join the discussion by emailing talk@mainepublic.org, by calling 1-800-399-3566, or by tweeting @mainecalling.
