Voting and Health: Accessing the Ballot Box
Did you know that voting shapes laws and policies that directly impact health? With Wisconsin’s 2026 General Election coming up on Tuesday, November 3rd, we are providing information to help ensure everyone who can vote is able to do so!
The first step to voting is registering. MyVote Wisconsin has made it easy to register to vote, update your name or address, and find your polling location. To get to each page, simply click the link for the action you want to take or type go to MyVote.wi.gov.
There are also alternatives to traditional voting which help accommodate every kind of voter. Some of the alternatives are:
1) Voting by absentee ballot
2) Voting in a CBRF
3) Curbside voting
Voting by Absentee Ballot
You can vote absentee early in person at City Hall to avoid the lines at the polls. Early voting runs for two weeks before each election!
Any qualified elector who registers to vote is eligible to request an absentee ballot, which allows voters to cast their vote without heading to the polls on election day. A qualified elector is a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, and who has resided at their current address for 28 days. Under Wisconsin law, voters do not need a reason or excuse to vote absentee. You have several options for requesting an absentee ballot and casting your vote. The simplest way is to request an absentee ballot online at MyVote.wi.gov. For more information about absentee voting, visit the City of Oak Creek Clerks webpage or contact your local clerk’s office at (414) 766-7000.
Voting in a CBRF
Voters who reside in an Oak Creek community-based residential facility (CBRF) will have poll workers assist them at the facility prior to Election Day.
Curbside Voting
In addition to accessible parking and accessible entrances at each polling location, the City of Oak Creek Clerk’s office has made it easier for those with physical impairments or limitations to vote on election day by providing “curbside voting” from a vehicle. Follow the signs at your polling locations if you need to utilize this service. A doorbell on a stand will be available and should be pressed for assistance. The doorbell rings inside the polling facility.
