Weekly Activity Overview: August 25-31, 2024 Norman Police Department strives to passionately serve the community through education, innovation, enforcement and excellence. NPD has been serving the residents of Norman since 1919. NPD is responsible for protecting and responding to calls that span the city's 197 square miles which include a mixture of dense urban and growing rural areas. The department is comprised of seven divisions and its headquarters is located at

W. Daws Street and N. Santa Fe Avenue.

PLANNING & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The mission of the Department of Planning and Community Development is to develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive urban planning process, emphasizing continuing interdepartmental cooperation and assistance in the preparation of plans and programs. And, to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Norman through enforcement of City Codes.

PUBLIC WORKS

DEVELOPMENT PROJECT, UPDATE:

The Villages, a Planned Unit Development (PUD)


The Villages, is generally located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Imhoff Road and Oakhurst Avenue. This final plat consists of 16.32 acres, 109 single family dwellings, and 5 common acres. The street layout consists of interior streets ending in a cul-de-sac. An emergency access is being provided as a secondary point of access during emergencies. Public improvements consist of sanitary sewer, water line, storm sewer, curb and gutter, paving, and sidewalks. Stormwater runoff will be conveyed to 2 detention facilities that will be maintained by the property owners association. All public improvements have been installed and accepted by the City. The builders are currently constructing homes throughout the development.

PUBLIC UTILITIES

UTILITIES REPORT: Lake Thunderbird current level is 1039.24, which is approximately 3 inches above the full mark of 1039.00 MSL. The United States Corps of Engineers ended the release of water at the dam on August 23, 2024. The average daily water demand for the week decreased to 18.90 MGD (Million Gallons per Day) as compared to last week’s daily water demand of 20.47 MGD. The usage is normal for this time of year.       

The City of Norman is excited to announce the launch of the City of Norman's Meter Infrastructure Program (MIP)! Led by the Norman Utilities Authority, this initiative will modernize our water metering system by enhancing water service and giving you greater control over your water usage. Over the next two years, existing meters will be replaced with advanced water meters that wirelessly transmit usage data and service alerts to the City's utility office! City of Norman utility customers can learn more here.
