Whole slide imaging in surgical pathology has been FDA certified on multiple scanning platforms since 2017 and has been CE-Mark longer than that in Europe. Recent advances in technology (to be discussed) are moving whole slide imaging into other disciplines including hematology, hematopathology and yes, cytopathology.
