Faculty Focus - Excellence in Classroom and Beyond

Dr. Gary Nierengarten

Born and based in St. Cloud, MN, I bring real-world experience in environmental program management and a passion for helping students grow into confident leaders. At SCSU Plymouth, I teach EM 664: Manufacturing Operations Management and focus on meeting students where they are academically and personally.

Whether it’s through hands-on learning, ASEM events, field trips, or even a journey to Japan, I value every opportunity to connect with students. My approach is simple: believe in their potential and guide them toward success because someone once told me, “Never let anyone tell you something can’t be done.”

Dr. Hiral Shah- MEM is on sabbatical in the Fall 2025; Dr. Gary Nierengarten - MEM will take over Dr. Shah’s duties during that time, so if you're a student in the MEM program or involved with something Dr. Shah usually handles, Dr. Nierengarten will be your point of contact during Fall 2025.

"Mastering Regulatory Affairs: My Experience with SCSU’s Online Program"— A Testimonial

Rebecca Gilbert

I finished my master's in Regulatory Affairs and Services right at a year ago (Summer 2024), and I cannot recommend this program highly enough to anyone looking to get their foot in the door or advance their existing career in the medical device regulatory space. I was able to complete this program in exactly two years while also working full-time at a fast-moving startup, even in a completely different state and time zone.

This program equips you with the tools to know a little bit of everything in the medical device space, which is a true luxury in an industry where gaining such a breadth of knowledge usually requires decades of real-world experience. I've seen an immediate return on investment in my professional career and am now leading a team of three regulatory professionals and using what I learned at SCSU Plymouth every day.
