FRIDAY FLASH

February 10, 2023

A Note from Headmaster Scott

Dear Archway Trivium Families,

This week I spent a few minutes with some 5th grade scholars. In a moment that is not uncommon for children of that age, they acted unkindly toward one another. This was not an ongoing event, nor were their errors particularly egregious. Nevertheless, relationships were damaged as assumptions were made and hurtful words were exchanged. None of the children felt good about the situation. The human soul is not made for unkindness, so it hurts when we behave in that way. We discovered together that the pain they felt from their own actions was at least as uncomfortable as the pain inflicted by the others. In that setting, not one of the children attempted to justify their actions. Instead, they admitted their individual errors and offered sincere apologies. Forgiveness was granted and all left the room as friends.

I exited a little behind them and looked down the hall. What I saw was truly beautiful. All three children had arms around each other as they approached their classroom door. As far as they knew, they were the only people in the hall, but I caught them behaving virtuously. This experience confirmed for me a significant truth: our pursuit of truth or moral excellence will absolutely be vanity if we strive to do it alone. Relationships matter. In fact, I am not sure virtue can actually exist without them…but that is a topic for another day. Have a great weekend!

Heartily Devoted,

Clay Scott

Friendship Day - February 14

Friendship is one of our core virtues at Archway Trivium, and so it is fitting to spend time to deepen our understanding of this life-giving virtue. Throughout the year we learn about friendship as we see it lived out in our literature and in our history.

As we want to keep the focus on friendship and what it means to be a good friend on Valentine's Day (and every day), students will not be permitted to bring store-bought valentines, candy, or gifts to school. Please join us in celebrating friendship through acts of kindness on this day.

Traffic Flow for Student Drop-off/Pick-up

With the expansion of Archway and addition of the new building, there are significant changes to the traffic flow for the upcoming school year. Please carefully review the new Archway Traffic Flow for Student Drop-off and Pick-up and reach out with any questions. Taking the time to understand these procedures will help to ensure the safety of our students/staff and a smooth traffic flow.

Carpooling Update: Our east side pick-up lane has had a faster track and will now be our designated carpool lane.

If you have 2 or more Archway ONLY pick-up cards, you will be guided into this fast-track lane for a faster pick-up. Please be sure to have your pick-up cards ready to show our traffic controllers that you are carpooling so they can guide you to the appropriate lane. To maintain the flow of pick-up, others may be directed to the fast-track lane, but carpools will be given priority. Please do not enter the carpool lanes until you are directed to do so.

As a reminder, if you are picking up Middle School students DO NOT ARRIVE to campus before 3:15 PM. This creates significant delays. If you arrive before 3:15, we will ask you to go back into our pick-up lanes and try again.

Please follow the link below to review the DETAILED Archway Traffic Flow Plan and be sure to share this link with anyone authorized to drop-off/pick-up your children.
