This week the State Senate released a plan in its State Budget proposal that would effectively end the Film & Television production industry in Massachusetts.
The changes would drive productions out of Massachusetts. This proposal includes: a cap on the amount of salaries that can apply towards the production costs of the credit; it eliminates the ability for productions to transfer the credit; and it increases the threshold for program eligibility. This is not acceptable.
Instead of eliminating the expiration date of the incentive program, this proposal only extends it to 2027, keeping the future of the industry in limbo – preventing new investments in soundstage facilities, local business growth in the industry, and job creation.
PLAIN AND SIMPLE: If this plan becomes law productions will no longer come to Massachusetts!
We need to sound the alarm now! You need to tell our State Senators to reject this plan, and instead keep film jobs growing in Massachusetts by eliminating the expiration date of the film incentive and making the program permanent.
This is what we need to do today!
