This coming Sunday, November 1, 2026, will be the 23rd Sunday

after Pentecost, and it is also All Saints Sunday.

The Scripture Reading will be 1 John 3. 1-3, and the sermon title is

" The Lord Saves His Servants' Lives"

Before you go to sleep this Saturday night....set your clocks BACK!

Just a reminder that Charge Conference will be held here at HUMC on November 1, from 3-4:30 PM.

A reminder that pledge cards are available in the Narthex and should be returned by Sunday, November 22nd. You can return your card in the offering plate, the offering box in the Narthex, or by dropping it off to Dianne in the church office. Thank you for your generosity and continued support of HUMC!

Preschool News

Our preschool friends continue to learn about community helpers this week and the change in the season to fall. Some friends stamped with apples, some painted with acorns, and some explored the insides of pumpkins. In chapel, we are learning about God's love for his people and how we can trust in his promises!

Pictures taken at our Trunk or Treat this past Saturday! It was quite a success, serving over 70, including church children, preschool friends, Foster families, and community friends. Thanks to all who donated candy for this event!

Over 2,500 pieces of candy were given out!

Discovery Music

This coming Sunday, the Discovery Band will sing and play This I Believe. A song that affirms our core beliefs about God the Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the church, forgiveness, resurrection, and eternal life.

The second song, Worthy of It All, recorded by CeCe Wynan, exalts Jesus as deserving of all honor, glory, and praise!

Together, these songs move us from declaring what we believe to expressing wholehearted worship of the One in whom we believe.

Please listen to both and sing along!

Chancel Choir Music For This Coming Sunday:

The song “We Are Called” reminds us that worship reaches beyond the sanctuary. As we sing of God’s grace and our hope in Christ, we are also called to practice justice, show mercy, serve one another, and walk humbly with God. Our praise becomes visible in the way we welcome those who are fearful or discouraged and work for a world shaped by love.

The Mission Team and the Genesis Class teamed up to provide a meal for Park View Community Mission on October 14. The Park View Café serves about 125 people every Wednesday afternoon.

The Mission Team would like to thank everyone who assisted with this year’s church Yard Sale. It takes a lot of people, seen and unseen, working hard for such a successful day! And a big shout out and sincere thank you to Tom and Dianne Van Valkenburg for their ongoing leadership and organization of the day. You are appreciated!!

Know that you, as a church, made a difference to the many visitors on the day of the sale and that over $4,400 was donated to the following local missions: Free Clinic of CVA; Habitat for Humanity; HUMC Preschool; Interfaith Outreach Association; Isaiah 117 House; Jubilee Family Development Center; Lynchburg Daily Bread; Meals on Wheels; Miriam’s House; Parkview Community Missions; Salvation Army; Shineforth; and Society of St. Andrew.

Our church is in need of a Kitchen Manager to help keep our kitchen running smoothly.

Responsibilities include:

  • Keeping cabinets stocked - monitoring supplies and restocking as needed.

  • Using a Sam's Club Card or other card for purchasing kitchen items.

  • Turning in all receipts to Cindy Harding for reimbursement.
  •
  • If you enjoy organizing and helping behind the scenes, this is a wonderful way to serve.

I have been notified that a student at LU has been watching our church services online for quite some time and wants to join our church. He's been a Methodist all his life and has been searching for a church home here in the States. He loves our service and the mix of music we do, and the fact that Pastor Jim stays nonpolitical. The only thing keeping him from getting here is that he doesn't drive, and he lives in Madison Heights and doesn't have a way to get here and back home. If there is anyone who lives "over the river" and could get him here and back home, will you contact the church office? He understands and says that if no one is available, he will continue to watch online. He contacted the United Methodist Churches in MH, and not a single one responded to his email.

Thank you.

Dianne

If anyone would like to place a live floral arrangement in the Sanctuary, please call your preferred flower shop and choose your arrangement. If you are unable to pick your arrangement up on Saturday, Cam Gumpman will pick it up for you. Call her @ 434-660-1227 and let her know which florist

 you used.

Then let Dianne know in the office so a slide may be prepared.
