For my colleagues, customers and friends
Musings about AI:
Can AI help you (or your clients) create that ethical will or personal history that's on your "someday I'll get to that" list?
Just yesterday I came across a company that thinks so. It looks like they have adapted the DYI autobiography model of StoryWorth to AI. And certainly ChatGPT could be useful in taking a first stab at organizing themes in a sprawling transcript.
Part of me says, yes, use these tools if it means getting off the blocks. My fear is that the programs will draw from data to make assumptions about what you mean to say, or create something so generic it doesn't sound like you anymore.
Experience has taught me that the process of creation is as valuable than the end product. No software program can duplicate the rewarding (and yes, often hard) work of thinking and reflecting and feeling that inspires the words that end up in the letter or the book.
Time and effort bring big rewards, as you surely know with any creative endeavor. So if you use the tools, do so with an eye to making sure no algorithm robs you of your own thinking - and your own satisfaction - in creating something beautiful and enduring and entirely your OWN.
Best to you,
Susan
