NPR election series: We the Voters

2024 Election Get closer to the issues NPR Network KGOU

Ahead of November's elections, NPR's journalists will be digging into some of the most important issues that drive voters to the polls and help shape which candidates will get their support. Next week Morning Edition kicks off the 'We the Voters' series with a look at guns in America, with many young voters in particular saying a lack of response to mass shootings and other gun violence is a top issue for them. The series begins Monday, April 15.

The following week, All Things Considered picks up the series with a focus on economic issues, specifically, some of the "kitchen table" factors that influence how voters feel about the economy: access to affordable housing, food prices, student debt. The ATC team will check in with four voters they've been following for the past couple election cycles to hear how they view the economy, and what they want their government to do. Tune in beginning Monday, April 22.

Future coverage in the We the Voters series will focus on immigration, reproductive rights, foreign policy and health care. Stay tuned.

Spring fundraising update: Standing up to headwinds

Windblown daisies A season for giving Thank you!

During the recent spring member drive, KGOU added 46 new members out of more than 200 supporters who contributed over seven days. That gets us almost 75 percent of the way to our goal of 300 contributions.

A heartfelt 'thank you' to everyone who has given so far, and special thanks to members who contributed to our Member Matching Fund, Cliff and Leslie Hudson, and Calvert's Plant Interiors, which is offering a discount on merchandise as one of the thank-you gifts available.

Listener support keeps KGOU going, even as we face the strong industry headwinds churning right now. If you didn't get a chance to give yet, you can still help us reach our goal!

How to contribute

Trust in news: Join us in Woodward

KGOU General Manager Dick Pryor and Ted Streuli with nonprofit newsroom Oklahoma Watch are presenting a series of free events across the state to discuss the news media and promote understanding of journalism. Starting in Chickasha, then in Durant last week, they're now heading to Woodward next Tuesday, April 16 in the Pioneer Room. If you've ever wondered how news stories are crafted from start to finish, join them for an informative evening. Ask them anything!

Here & Now series: Reverse Course

Every time we drive our car, get a package delivered, or take a flight for vacation, we're contributing to climate change. But people are taking steps big and small to reverse course. Starting on Earth Day, April 22, Here & Now will take up their occasional series to look at what's being done in transportation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

NPR Investigations' Historical Markers: Off the Mark

NPR's Investigations Desk Correspondent Laura Sullivan and data investigations producer Nicholas McMillan have spent the past year examining the country's historical markers and found many are comically wrong while others are brazenly offensive. Some have brought buried truths to light, others have been used to spread hate. Tune in Sunday, April 21 during All Things Considered (5 p.m.) for the first installment.
