Friendships Grow with Language Skills

Omar and Olha

English classes offer opportunities beyond language instruction. Many students in our classes form strong and lasting bonds with their classmates, helping to create a sense of community.

Omar, from Senegal, and Olha, from Ukraine, both attended our Community English class at Nuestro Mundo Community School this spring. In spite of an age gap, cultural differences and limited English skills, the two formed a strong connection through many classes of English. They often sat and practiced together. Olha said one day, "He is my grandson now."

Please support students building skills and community with your gift today!

Learning Center's Exterior Updates

Building Exterior Video

If you've driven down Park Street recently, you may have noticed a lot of activity outside of our learning center. We are excited to have our building looking its best with the addition of much-needed new siding.

See the transformation here. This work follows an extensive indoor renovation and expansion over the winter, which added space needed to serve our growing student population.

Thank you to the following funders who made these improvements possible, so that our learning center is a warm and welcoming place for our wonderful students:

  • City of Madison Community Facilities Loan Program
  • DeAtley Family Foundation
  • Findorff
  • Irving and Dorothy Levy Family Foundation
  • Irwin A & Robert D Goodman Foundation
  • Marvin Levy
  • Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation
  • Steve and Patti Lucas

Transitions Students Share Goals

Transitions Student Goals

This summer's Transition's ESL class is made up of future restaurant owners, photographers, radiologists, and more! Students created the above list of professional goals during one of their first classes of the summer semester and will make concrete progress toward them in the coming months.

Our Transitions program provides personalized support, education, and career advising to help adults succeed at Madison College. The program supports higher-level English Language Learners by providing rigorous English language, literacy, critical thinking, and academic skill development. Participants receive personalized advising services to create a plan and identify resources to reach their educational and career goals.

We are inspired by students' ambitions and can't wait to work with them on the next steps on their journeys toward these professional goals!
