A New Way To Help on the Day of Service!

Items Needed on the Day of Service

Bringing a bottle of shampoo or a box of tissues to the Day of Service may seem like a very small thing. You may even ask yourself, "Why bother?"

While it's true that it doesn't seem like much, when 500 people bring an item or two from the list below to the Day of Service, we can make a meaningful contribution to the food pantries, clothing rooms, and schools of North Hill.

Here's what we would love to have:

New or gently used men's clothing--especially pants--in sizes small & medium
New or gently used clothing for school-age kids (sizes 6-16)
New or gently used sweatshirts & hoodies in sizes small & medium (no bad language or graphics)
New packs of socks & underwear for all ages, sizes and gender
VO5 shampoo & conditioner
Body lotion (any brand)
Boxes of tissues
Glue sticks
#2 pencils

On the Day of Service, we will have a designated tent staffed with volunteers ready to accept your contributions. You can drop your items off when you arrive!

Volunteer at Findley Community Learning Center, an amazing elementary school in the North Hill community of Akron.

Or, pack student food bags about twice a month beginning at 4:45 pm at the school.

Back to School Hygiene Product Giveaway

A Back-to-School Hygiene Product Giveaway will occur Aug. 25 during Open House from 4 - 6 pm, with setup starting at 2 pm. Please sign up to help at this important event.

Food Pantry & School Snacks

The Pantry continues to see an increase in families facing food insecurity. We will continue to operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15 am - 1:30 pm. You can sign up to help here.

Great news! We are going to offer snacks to students who stay at school for after-school activities. We will start on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the first two weeks to work out the details. We're looking for two volunteers to help on each of the days we'll be open.

Clothing Closet

We continue to operate the clothing closet for students and their families. Volunteer hours are flexible and can be anytime during normal school hours. If you are interested in assisting with the clothing closet, please contact Kris Stoehr at kstoehr@hudsonucc.org.

Homecoming Dress & Suit Giveaway

On October 1 from 4 - 7pm we will be hosting a Homecoming Dress & Suit Giveaway. We need plenty of volunteers to set up, clean up, and assist students with picking out dresses and suits. This is a very fun event, and we'd love to have your help! Sign up here.

Hydration Station Volunteers Needed at the Akron Marathon

Have you ever attended a marathon? It's a memorable experience watching runners who have trained for countless hours achieve their goals. Some marathoners are running for the first time, and some have run in dozens of races. Some are doing it for personal reasons, and some are running for charity. Regardless of the reason or a runner's experience, it's so inspiring to watch.

In a way, First Serve is like a marathon. We work all year to prepare for the Day of Service, and when the day finally arrives, hundreds of volunteers show up energized and full of positive vibes.

As a Blue Line Charity partner with the Akron Marathon, First Serve is asked to provide 50 volunteers at hydration stations along the race route. New this year, volunteers are able to fundraise to help raise money for Day of Service!
