Our learning journey with Candid is underway and the next phase is around the corner!

The second installment of On the Menu is slated for May 18.

We want to arm YOU with the tools and skills you need to successfully engage with the software to help strengthen your funding prospects and deepen your funding pool.

Join us for the May session! We'll be exploring the tools that make up Foundation Directory Online.

Remember, CFOV has these tools available for our community and we would love to host your research in the dedicated and comfortable space we've created on our second floor!

There is NO COST to participate in the series and we hope you'll make
space in your schedule to join us. These are stand-alone sessions - that means you can join in any combination that makes sense with your interest and availability.

And! If you can't join us, register anyway!
Our facilitator, Susan Shiroma from Candid, will send the session and
supporting materials to all registrants!
SWN STEM Grants
Learning may have taken on a remote form for much of the current school year, but that didn’t stop area teachers from seeking ways to inspire students to explore and understand real-world concepts. Thanks to grant funding made possible through Southwestern Energy (SWN) and the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley (CFOV), local educators will now be equipped with new resources to bring STEM-based learning to life.

There are some awesome projects happening thanks to this support - click here to check it out!
Field of Interest Funds Provide Flexible Support
As part of its commitment to supporting nonprofits in the Ohio Valley, the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley (CFOV) has awarded grants totaling $29,100 to 17 organizations.

The grants are made possible through CFOV’s field of interest funds. These funds were established by donors who had an affinity for an area of focus or location, rather than a specific organization, and entrusted the Foundation to identify beneficiaries. By design, field of interest funds can provide responsive opportunities which allows Foundation staff to use knowledge of community needs when making grant recommendations. Honoring the charitable intention and structure of each fund is required.

As the Ohio Valley adapts to the challenges presented by COVID-19, organizations across the Foundation’s eight-county service area continue to rise to the occasion by supporting needs of all types that improve the quality of life for all. This year’s field of interest grants support a wide range of opportunities including early literacy, cultural awareness, animal care and transportation.
To-Do List Dragging You Down?
sad_businesswoman_help.jpg
Talk about a double-edged sword! The "list" can make you feel great with every item accomplished or can make you feel so very sad with every task that gets added! Joan Garry, one of our favorite NPO experts, offers some insights on cracking this case and making your list work for you!
CFOV and FDO - a Partnership to Support Your Grantseeking!
As a member of Candid's Funding Information Network, CFOV can share free public access to
databases and resources designed with grantseekers in mind.

The Foundation Directory Online (FDO) is a GIANT database of funding opportunities and details.
Thanks to CFOV, this resource was previously available on the campus of Wheeling University
some years ago and under the umbrella of the Foundation Center.
After some rebranding and fine tuning, the service is now a Candid product.

Not only is it much more robust, but it is now available in our building!

CFOV's commitment to area nonprofits is certainly strengthened through this partnership.
A dedicated space on the second floor of our building serves as a nonprofit resource center
and features workstations connected to the FDO.

Although attendance at these sessions is not required to be a successful grantseeker,
they will certainly help to orient you to become an efficient researcher!

In addition to the facilitated On the Menu sessions, Candid has a huge
tutorial library full of resources to get you ready to search!

When you are ready, reach out to us and make a reservation to use the
dedicated FDO database space on our second floor.

This in-person setting is NOT the same thing as the limited day pass mentioned during our April Zoom session.

We look forward to supporting your grantseeking and thank the Elizabeth Stifel Kline Foundation for providing the funding that allows us to offer this resource to our community!
More than Grants
Sometimes it's hard to describe community foundations! An organization like CFOV can be defined in ways largely driven by the types of connections being made through it. While grantmaking is a big part of what we do, we are also interested in listening and learning!

Give a listen and let us know what you think - we're all ears!
