MHO Breaks Ground on

Star Point Apartments

On Wednesday, April 23rd, MHO broke ground at Star Point Apartments, a 60-unit affordable housing community off Tunnel Road in East Asheville! Star Point is the 23rd affordable housing complex developed by MHO since 1995. Construction has already begun and is expected to be completed by Spring 2026.

Special thanks to our community members who attended the groundbreaking, including the Star Point Apartments partners from First Citizens Bank, RBC Capital Markets, Dogwood Health Trust, NeighborWorks America, the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, the City of Asheville, and Buncombe County. O’Brien Architecture is the project’s architect, Civil Design Concepts is the civil design partner, and WEAVERCOOKE Construction serves as the construction partner and general contractor

June 7th-14th is Neighborworks Week! In 2008, MHO received its membership charter from NeighborWorks America, one of only four NeighborWorks organizations in North Carolina. NeighborWorks creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives, and strengthen their communities. Follow MHO Social Media to learn more about NeighborWorks this month! Let’s celebrate the impact of one community, many hands. #OneCommunityManyHands #NWWeek

MHO was recently awarded a WNC Long-Term Recovery Grant for $25,000 from the Duke Energy Foundation! We are honored to collaborate with dedicated organizations that share our commitment to affordable housing, especially after Tropical Storm Helene. These funds will directly fuel our recovery efforts across the region. Thank you, Duke Energy Foundation!

Save the Date for a special ribbon-cutting celebration marking the reopening of two MHO properties in the River Arts District on July 23rd, 2025, at 10am! Following extensive repairs due to flooding, we’re excited to welcome back local businesses at 372 & 408 Depot Street this June, with 22 residential units reopening at 408 Depot Street in July. Stay tuned for more details!

MHO is working to rebuild homes, support displaced families, and sustain long-term recovery after Tropical Storm Helene. Hear more from our community on the impact MHO has already had, with our long-term vision for recovery.

Help people live better, for longer, in their own homes.

In 2024, we served 170+ people through our Essential Home Repair (EHR) program, and have already served over 100+ people in 2025, including 17 directly impacted by Tropical Storm Helene. Yet the need in our community continues to climb. Home repair has the power to transform lives. Robin, a recent EHR client, vividly recalls the moment she turned on the water in her home for the first time in six years after receiving essential repairs:

“I can’t tell you the feeling… I was ready to cry. It was a miracle! To have running water after all these years. Because I knew I had a place that I could call home again.”

Your donation ensures that MHO can be there when help is needed. Please consider making a gift today to help neighbors like Robin. Thank you!
