James Kemp
Last year, James launched the City of Hamilton’s first Accessibility Awards, recognising the good work advocates and community organizations do to foster a culture of universal accessibility. These awards were given out at the City’s Accessibility Fair, an event James also spearheaded.
In 2023 James was awarded the Order of Hamilton for his long history of volunteerism. He’s taught Tai Chi, pain management, and meditation through programs that support those in need of such skills and relief.
In 2025, Inspired into action by James, the City of Hamilton's Community and Public Engagement teams came together to build a project page on engage.hamilton.ca to acknowledge the actions of City volunteers and to learn more about what we can do to better support them. Thank you, James for inspiring this important opportunity to connect & recognize City volunteers and, thank you for the many waves of change you lead every day.

Together, We Create Ripples of Change
The theme for National Volunteer Week 2025 is "Volunteers Make Waves". It highlights the power, impact, and importance of individual and collective volunteer efforts across our city and our country. Like a wave, volunteering is movement building and the ripple effects are felt throughout community.
Join us as we come together to recognize and celebrate all the ways volunteers make waves in Hamilton. Share your volunteer experiences, tell us what motivates you to volunteer your time, and how we can better support you.
