Cambridge MD Rotary Presents Annual Flags for Heroes Display

The Cambridge MD Rotary Club is honored to bring back our annual Flags for Heroes Display at Long Wharf Park in Cambridge Maryland. This uplifting community tribute honors our community heroes who have made a difference from veterans and active-duty service members to first responders, medical professionals, educators, mentors, and our neighbors who lead with courage and compassion.

This year’s display will kick off on May 21st at 5:00 p.m. with a Flag Raising and Dedication Ceremony. Corporate and Individual sponsors will be invited to participate in the Dedication Ceremony, by placing their honoree’s flag themselves. This creates an experience that is more personal than simply seeing a name on a tag—bringing families, friends, and neighbors together in a moment of gratitude and reflection. Individual Flag Sponsorships are $50.00 and Corporate Sponsorships vary by level. Learn more or sign up to be a sponsor here at https://rotaryflagsforheroes.org.

Commissioners Recognize Municipal League Essay Contest Winner

Screenshot-2026-04-29-164245 image

Cambridge commissioners paused their regular meeting on Monday to recognize Cristian Cruz Martinez, a local student honored as a winner of the Maryland Municipal League’s “If I Were Mayor, I Would” essay contest.

Cristian opened the meeting by gaveling it to order from the mayor’s chair under the guidance of Mayor Lajan Cephas-Bey, then later read his essay, which focused on health, safety, and education as the foundation for a strong community.

In his essay, Cristian wrote that as mayor, he would focus on making laws and creating spaces that promote safety, education, and well-being, with the goal of building a community where people want to live.

“Cristian Cruz Martinez reminded me of what leadership is supposed to look like,” Cephas-Bey said during closing remarks, reflecting on the student’s message.

Volunteers Keep One Mission Cambridge Running Through Steady Service

On any given day at One Mission Cambridge, volunteers greet shoppers, restock shelves, and help keep the space running smoothly.

For many, it’s the consistency of the work and the connections they make that keep them coming back.

Stephen Dissinger, who has volunteered for several months, typically shows up two to three times a week. He first heard about the organization around town, checked out its website, and decided to get involved.

“I like to meet people where they’re at and share meals with them,” Dissinger said. “Everyone deserves love and respect. Not enough people understand that.”

At the nonprofit’s grocery-style pantry, volunteers assist visitors as they move through aisles and select their own food, a model that differs from traditional food distributions.

For All Seasons Expands Community Mental Health Education During Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. For All Seasons is celebrating with a focus on the theme “Strong Communities Begin with Connection,” as the agency introduces a range of resources through its Center for Learning to help individuals of all ages, businesses, and nonprofits strengthen their mental health and collaboratively create a healthier community for all. This month also serves as a reminder to check in on each other’s mental health and share resources when needed among our families and friends.

As part of its Mental Health Awareness Month activities, For All Seasons’ Center for Learning is highlighting that youth mental health is shaped by both adversity and positive experiences. Trauma can affect how young people think, feel, and behave. At the same time, consistent relationships and positive experiences can build strength and change trajectories. Research shows that, while traumatic experiences can and do happen to young people, caring adults who consistently provide positive interactions and a sense of belongingness can cultivate resilience. By focusing on the supportive, grounding experiences that help children manage life and stay connected, For All Seasons’ Center for Learning is helping the community as a whole thrive.

Sole Strenth Calls on Artists to Give Form to Domestic Violence Survivor Stories Through Art

The Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence (MSCFV) announces Sole Strength, a powerful, immersive art experience that transforms the unseen journeys of domestic violence survivors into stories that can be felt, seen, and shared through art. Alongside this announcement, MSCFV is issuing an open call for artists across disciplines to participate in this meaningful community exhibition.

Sole Strength invites artists working in painting, sculpture, woodwork, metal, fiber, mixed media, and beyond to interpret real survivor journeys through their own creative lens. Each artwork will be inspired by an anonymous survivor story and a donated pair of shoes worn by an individual whose identity remains protected, but whose voice deserves to be heard. Through texture, shape, color, and space, Sole Strength offers the public a rare opportunity to walk alongside survivors not through statistics or headlines, but through deeply human stories of fear, resilience, transformation, and self-sufficiency.

Behind the Lines: a 9/11 Story Benefits Venerans and First Responders

2026ForAllSeasonsLivePhoto4 image

Behind the Lines: a 9/11 Story is a live storytelling, music, and theatre performance set against the tragedy of the September 11 attacks and the war that followed. The production will debut at the Avalon Theatre in Easton on May 23 and May 24, ahead of a national tour and in recognition of the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Created by internationally acclaimed jazz musician Dominick Farinacci and combat veteran Jaymes Poling, this immersive experience reveals the lasting impact of 9/11 and the war that followed, taking audiences on a deeply moving journey of loss, resilience, and hope.

World Trade Center firefighter Bill Spade, the sole survivor from FDNY Rescue Company 5, and Poling, a three-tour Afghanistan combat veteran with the 82nd Airborne Division, relive their experiences and find an unexpected bond in strength, meaning, and the weight of what they continue to carry after service. Farinacci, a familiar face from Easton’s Monty Alexander Jazz Festival, brings his deep commitment to music and mental well-being.

Cambridge Crab Run

We are excited to say that we are returning for our traditional Sunday (Mother's Day) event!!!

The Crab Run consists of a half marathon (13.1 miles) immediately followed by a 5k (3.1 miles) run, all from the grounds of Gerry Boyle Park at Great Marsh, located at 0 Somerset Avenue, Cambridge. Our half marathon follows the same course as the Eagleman event in June, a perfect opportunity for a preview of the course in cooler temperatures.

This race takes you past the Choptank River at the start before rolling out to the country roads of Dorchester County.

If you are looking for a challenge, why not sign up for the KING CRAB challenge? You must complete the half marathon in under 2 hours to make it in time for the start of the 5k. Do you have what it takes to make the time cut?

There's also a Kids 5K Option for 12 & Under.
