Parenting in a Digital World Tip #27: Parent's Ultimate Guide to Online Gambling

This tip comes from Common Sense Media.

Over the last few years, there has been a significant rise nationwide of online gambling by teens and young adults (particularly boys). Gambling and gambling-like experiences can show up in online gaming, video games, and sports betting, as well as traditional forms of gambling, like betting with friends or playing the lottery, and ads related to all of the above.

In this guide by Common Sense Media, they share some red flags to watch out for and tips to support kids by encouraging healthy habits. Article.

Hermosa View School Principal News

Dear View Families,

We hope you enjoyed visiting your child’s classroom this past Thursday. I was so impressed walking through our school and seeing all the amazing work our students completed this year. Thank you to our teachers and staff for pouring into our kids to help them thrive at Hermosa View. I couldn’t be more proud of the growth our kids have had and I hope you enjoyed seeing that showcased at Open House.

Our last Flag Assembly has been moved from June 5th to June 11th to avoid conflicting with Vista’s Spring Sing. Tuesday, 5/27, we will be having our first Career Day. We look forward to giving our little ones a taste of a variety of careers brought to you by our very own parents.

This Wednesday, we have our last safety drill of the year to practice for an Earthquake. Thank you for reminding your children to be respectful listeners and practice making safe choices during the drill. Our Sand and Surf Soccer Coaches will be at View again on Tuesday and Thursday during lunch. Please encourage your kids to participate!

Finally, I look forward to watching our 18th Annual Talent Show on Friday, May 29th at 6pm at the Hermosa Beach Community Theatre. See you there!

Warmly,

Dr. Jessica Ghobrial

Hermosa View Principal / HB Preschool Director

Hermosa Vista School Principal News

Dear Vista Families,

Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered their time and energy to present at Career Day. Students had a wonderful time learning about the many careers you shared and especially enjoyed collecting artifacts from the different professions. It was a valuable opportunity for students to explore diverse career paths and begin imagining their own bright futures.

We also had a wonderful Principal for the Day, Ben Henderson! He helped make fun Dolphin announcements and even raffled off prizes for students with great attendance at Vista. He also received beautiful artwork from a wonderful donation from the Hearts of Hermosa that is going to join our front office. We had so much fun with him leading the school for the day.

As we approach the end of the school year, I would like to remind students of the following:

  1. Please do not bring fidgets/toys that are valuable to school. We are having difficulty with ensuring that they do not get lost or taken, therefore we don’t want them to be a distraction to our students. Please keep them at home so students can focus on learning.
  2. Please ensure that if you are dropping off students on 26th Street, you come to a complete stop and make sure students are able to safely exit the vehicle and access a clear pathway to the back Valley gate. We appreciate your attention to safe driving practices to help prevent accidents and maintain a safe school community for everyone.
  3. Lastly, please remember that the library is reserved for Vista students only for afterschool.

Thank you for partnering with us to help ensure a smooth end to the school year.

Warmly,

Grace Yang

Hermosa Vista Principal
