Heron Island, a pisonia forested coral cay on the southern Great Barrier Reef. We're excited to return in October 2020!
Experience some of Australia's best scuba diving - more than 30 dive sites are available, half of which are only 15 minutes away due to the island's location right atop the outer Great Barrier Reef. This southern area of the reef has, so far,
resisted coral bleaching due to cooler water temperatures.
Non-divers and divers alike can enjoy the beach, bird life, and activities like stargazing under the Southern Cross. An amazing array of animal and bird life can be discovered, including the Green and Loggerhead sea turtles nesting during our visit.

Amid so much sad environmental news, from bushfires to coral bleaching, it's heartening to hear that all is not yet lost. Australia's Great Barrier Reef stretches 2300 kilometers from north to south, and while much of the reef has suffered from coral bleaching, the
southern section continues to thrive. The main reason why is quite simple - for now, it's protected by cooler waters further from the equator.
